The Office Skills certificate program prepares students for beginning positions as entry-level general office workers. Students who have selected the Office Skills Certificate Program may transfer to the Office Technology degree curriculum and will receive credit for those courses they have taken which are included in the degree curriculum. Program Entry Requirements:
This program is open to interested students, assuming space is available. However, new students are normally required to take the College's placement tests at their time of entry. Students identified as needing developmental course work must satisfactorily complete the appropriate English and mathematics courses as part of their program. Program of Study and Graduation Requirements:
To qualify for the Office Skills certificate, students must successfully complete a minimum of 36 credit-hours as prescribed and attain a grade point average of 2.0 (C average). This course gives the student grounding in double-entry accounting theory and an introduction to bookkeeping methods and related clerical procedures, such as petty cash and banking procedures. Introduction to Bookkeeping is designed as a hands-on course. Required Text: Century 21 Accounting (approximately $80) and Workbook #1 (approximately $20) Both are required for the first class.

Program Description
The entry level Office Skills program is a prerequisite for all other business programs and is designed to give students a basic understanding of the operations and functions of computer hardware and software, keyboarding, and a working knowledge of modern office procedures including telephone skills, filing, and customer service. Instruction is individualized to allow students to progress at their own pace. Duration of this program is approximately two-three months.
Job/Advancement Opportunities
Graduates of the Office Skills program may elect to take advanced business programs or seek employment as a general administrative support clerk, receptionist, or similar position.
