Liste bibliographique FCM-Oceanography

Sources for Information on Careers in Biology, Conservation, and Oceanography
The National Museum of Natural History receives numerous requests for information on careers in the biological sciences. This pamphlet provides a listing of the career guidance leaflets published by the professional scientific societies as well as United States Government publications on careers in biology, conservation, and oceanography. Other sources for career information are also included. Many of the publications listed contain bibliographies and suggest additional sources for career guidance. Information on career fields not listed can be obtained by writing to the pertinent professional scientific society. For the names and addresses of such societies consult the Encyclopedia of Associations, National Organizations of the U.S., 28th edition, l994. This encyclopedia is available at most large public libraries. BIOLOGY General information

Back to top Feline 1990, 1992 Iron, required for photosynthesis, limits the growth of phytoplankton (microscopic plants) in certain areas of the ocean. Incubation Experiments, in which some samples were given iron and others were not, demonstrated that the Equatorial Pacific is one such area. The effect of sunlight on the chemistry of surface water iron was also studied. IronEx I II expeditions later confirmed these findings in actual open ocean fertilization experiments.

GIS TOOLS ANIMAL MOVEMENT Analysis of Telemetry Data in the GIS Environment Course taught by Philip Hooge in September 2003. Animal Movement is an ArcView extension that contains a collection of over 40 functions specifically designed to aid in the analysis of animal movement. This data could be collected from radio tags, sonic tags, Argos satellite tags or observational data. The program is designed to implement a wide variety of animal movement functions in an integrated GIS environment. The program also has significant utility for analyzing other point phenomena. This program now only comes in one version that also requires the ESRI program Spatial Analyst The limited function version 1.1 that did not require Spatial Analyst was removed, as it was no longer being updated. Version 2.x runs under ArcView 3.0-3.3. A few functions are disabled until testing is complete.
