182. Ocean Surface Topography From Space-Missions
an oceanography mission to monitor global ocean circulation, discover the tie between the oceans and atmosphere, improve global climate predictions, and monitor events such as El Ni±o conditions and ocean eddies. The Jason1 satellite carries a radar altimeter and it is a follow-on mission to the highly successful TOPEX/Poseidon mission. It is joint mission between France and USA. The satellite will be launched in May 2000.

MISSIONS - Jason-1
Jason-1 is the first follow-on to the highly successful TOPEX/Poseidon mission that measured ocean surface topography to an accuracy of 4.2 cm, enabled scientists to forecast the 1997-1998 , and improved understanding of ocean circulation and its effect of global climate. The joint NASA- CNES program will launch a French spacecraft on an American Delta II from an American base. Like TOPEX/Poseidon, the payload will include both American and French instruments. Jason-1 altimeter data will be part of a suite of data provided by other JPL-managed ocean missionsthe GRACE mission will use two satellites to accurately measure Earth's mass distribution, and the QuikSCAT scatterometer mission will measure ocean-surface winds. What's New Jason-1 Launched One Year Ago
Jason-1 was launched 1 year ago, on 12/07/01 at 7:07AM from Vandenberg Air Force Base. See the NEW Jason-1 Launch Footage and some pre-launch interviews with Gary Kunstmann, Jason-1 Project Manager.

186. HOBI Labs
HOBI Labs offers a unique line of optical instruments and sensors. Specialises in optical oceanography and hydrooptical instrumentation for the marine sciences community.
http://www.hobilabs.com/
Lighting the way in marine science Welcome to HOBI Labs. We develop, manufacture and sell scientific instruments for measuring the optical properties of natural waters and spectral solar radiation. The range of optical measurements that can be made by our line of instruments include the backscattering, beam attenuation and absorption coefficients, the volume scattering function, stimulated fluorescence, plane and scalar irradiance and radiance. In addition to our optical instruments, we offer sophisticated multi-instrument integration, control and acquisition systems that include power distribution, data logging and long cable transmission capabilities. HOBI Labs is also a private marine research laboratory that conducts basic and applied research on a wide range of problems in aquatic optics. To learn more about our research projects, please explore the research section of this site. Note: Due to the many new products and services we now offer, this website is in the process of a major upgrade. The upgraded site will also include many new pages containing a comprehensive presentation of recent and exciting results in our on-going research on marine optics.
