OCEANOGRAPHY FACULTY; Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, Savannah, GA
Posted: Tue, Jan 21, 2003 Jobs at Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, Savannah, GA USA OCEANOGRAPHY FACULTY The Skidaway Institute of Oceanography invites applications for two positions available 1 July 2003. While interested individuals from all aspects of ocean science may apply, we are particularly interested in the following: An ocean-atmosphere interactions scientist with interests in field measurements and modeling of momentum, heat, and/or mass transfer across the air-water interface. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: modeling and/or measurement of air-sea interactions, coastal meteorology or geochemical fluxes at the air-sea interface. The latter is of particular interest since it would complement research presently underway at SkIO. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate in multi-institutional, ongoing boundary-layer research using meteorological and oceanographic coastal observing systems on the continental shelf operated by SkIO. A biological oceanographer with proven interdisciplinary skills whose research focuses on either pelagic food webs, benthic ecology, and/or benthic exchange processes. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: trophic interactions, chemical ecology, sediment microbiology and indices of ecosystem health. Applicants who employ molecular approaches to these studies are of additional interest. The successful candidate will be part of a biological oceanography faculty with present expertise in planktonic food webs and molecular microbial ecology.
