Books by Dr. Haas Reviews Articles by Dr. Haas Ten Healing Foods: To Buy Organic
Adapted from The Staying Healthy Shopper's Guide: Feed Your Family Safely
There are some key aspects of foods' nutrition and healthfulness to consider when choosing healing foods – we want ones that are high in supportive nutrients and that are clear of toxic chemicals. Consuming foods as they are grown from Nature is where to begin – fresh fruits, wholesome vegetables, hearty whole grains, lively legumes, nutritious nuts and seeds, some calming low-fat dairy, and non-toxic animal proteins, from eggs to flesh if these are desired and feel right for you. Then, make sure the main foods you eat are not filled with additives or exposed to pesticides and other chemical sprays, or contaminated in other ways, such as from the water, soil, or industrial treatments. The key foods to buy organically grown and/or manufactured from organic ingredients are:
  • Those that are commonly heavily treated, such as strawberries and animals;

    Red Deer - Physical Description
Red Deer are the largest mammals in Britain. They have a reddish-brown coat. It changes to the grayish hue in winter. The red deer has a patch of a creamy color on the rump and a short tail. The males carry antlers. Red deer range in color from dark brown in the wintertime to tan in summer. The head, neck, belly and legs of the mammal are darker than the back and sides of the body. Males have a dark mane hanging from the neck to the chest. The Red deer's legs are slender, and the body is rather sturdy. Males tend to be larger and heavier than females.
    Scientific Name: Cervus elaphus
Life Span: These animals tend to live up to 25 years. Picture source:
    Fossil Rim
    Red Deer - Geographic Range
The Red deer species was once found throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Red deer are widespread, however, they are distributed patchily in the Palaearctic region, on the territory from Ireland to China and from south of the Arctic Circle in Norway to North Africa. In Great Britain, the Red deer is present in Scotland and the Scottish Islands, the Lake District, Thetford Forest, and New Forest. Red deer inhabit grassland, forest, mountains and moorland. Mostly they are forest dwellers, but Red deer are highly adaptive. The availability of food for Red deer basically determines the choice of place for their habitat.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE:  Nutritional Causes, Prevention and Therapies
Named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer, who identified this form of dementia in 1906, Alzheimer's Disease
is a progressive form of degenerative brain disease that generally leads to confusion, memory loss,
agitation, apathy, depression, problems with perception, speech, trouble moving, and fearing things
that are not there.  Up to 70% of dementias are due to Alzheimer's disease, with the diagnosis usually
being made by ruling out other causes of dementia.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) occurs almost as often in men as it does in women, whereby early onset
of AD appears before age 60, and late onset AD - the most common form of the disease - develops
in people 60 and older.  Several factors are believed to be involved in the development of Alzheimer's
disease, but none have been proven as of yet. Neurochemical causes are thought to include lack of substances used by the nerve cells to transmit nerve impulses (neurotransmitters), including acetylcholine, serotonin, somatostatin, substance P

    Wellness Site of the Week:
    www.skincheck.com
This website was established after the death of a 26 year old male to melanoma (skin cancer) by his family who asks that the website be visited to learn about the dangers of melanoma. The site focuses on early detection of melanoma by self exam (how to's) to detect the disease while it is curable. WHY:
    1. among 25-29 year age group melanoma is the most prevalent cancer increasing by 4% annually.
    2. in a 1996 survey 74 % of people 18-24 years old have little or no knowledge about this killer or how to check for it.
