101. Nova Scotia Art - Artists
A directory especially for all disciplines of the Arts in the province. Offers artists, agents, galleries, museums and a template for adding listings.
http://www.novascotiaart.com/
Dear fellow members of the Nova Scotia Art Community: Following many recent requests from fellow Artists and others within the Nova Scotia Art community, I have decided to respond to this wide interest by co-ordinating an Internet Directory especially for those in any and all disciplines of the Arts who work, display or operate an Art related business, here in Nova Scotia. The Directory Service www.novascotiaart.com is intended to provide a colorful, simple effective and easy-to-find Business Card, Banner or link Listing Directory, available to those in any Nova Scotia Art-related field. While larger Country or Continent-wide Directories offer a much wider database, it is also true such Listing Services often feature thousands of selections, making it very easy for those listed to be lost in a very large sea, similar to a Country-wide phone book. Our own Provincial Directory dramatically reduces the lists providing more opportunities for exposure and activity. The choice of Services then becomes more obvious for the searcher. I therefore invite you to consider a Business Card Listing, Link or Banner in

    Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia's 580-kilometres-long peninsula is surrounded by water. With an area of 55,284 square kilometres and average width of 128 kilometres, no part of the province is far from the sea. Its geographic location, together with large, ice-free deep-water harbours, have been key factors in the province's economic development. The Micmac Indians inhabited Nova Scotia long before the first settlers arrived from Europe. The first visitors, however, were Norsemen in the early 11th century. In the seventeenth century, all of Nova Scotia, as well as parts of Quebec, New Brunswick and Maine, which made up an area known as Acadia, were inhabited by the French. It later became a British colony and, in 1848, Nova Scotia was granted responsible government. It was one of the four provinces that constituted the new federation called the Dominion of Canada in 1867. At that time, the province was on the forefront of international shipbuilding and the lumber and fishing trades. The first and second world wars emphasized the importance of Halifax, Nova Scotia's capital, as one of the world's major military ports.

Building The Foundation E arly in 1988, The Freedom Foundation of Nova Scotia was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. A group of concerned citizens met to discuss ways to help the recovering alcoholic. It was unanimously agreed to concentrate initial efforts towards satisfying an urgent need to establish a transition home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, to aid alcoholics who demonstrate a desire and effort towards recovery. This home is known as The Freedom Foundation - Chapter 1. In 1990 the mandate broadened to include drug addicts and, in 1996, broadened again to include those addicted to gambling.

Canada was founded by two founding nations, French and English. The French established the first North American French Settlement at Port Royal, Nova Scotia in 1605. They were eventually deported from Nova Scotia beginning in 1755. We know them as the Acadians. (Cajuns in USA) The first English settlement in Pictou County was by the Philadelphia Company in 1767 when they sent thirty-five people, six families of Scottish and Irish-Scottish origin on the ship Betsey from Philadelphia and Maryland to settle on their land in Pictou, Nova Scotia. The second wave came from Scotland to Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1773 when the Hector arrived to a heavily forested and unsettled land. The earlier immigrants were tradesmen and self supporting. Later arrivals came because the Lords in Scotland who owned the land made them leave, know as the infamous Clearances, as it was more profitable to raise sheep than be paid for the lands use by the tenants. My family can trace their Genealogy roots to both of these early settlements and founding peoples.

Welcome to the Home Page of the
Nova Scotia Wind Energy Project (NSWEP)
    Introduction
A growing body of scientific research indicates that the combustion of fossil fuels produces greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, which are contributing to climate change. Many coastal regions, including almost all of Nova Scotia, will be particularly vulnerable to some of the predicted effects of climate change, notably sea-level rise and extreme weather events. A rise of less than a metre coupled with high tides and extreme weather events could severely disrupt the lives of many people living in low-lying communities along the Atlantic coast, the Bras d'Or Lakes and the Bay of Fundy. In December 1997, at the Third Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Kyoto, Japan, the Canadian Federal government set a greenhouse gas target of 6% reduction relative to 1990 levels by the years 2008-2012. To help Canadians reach this target, the Federal government, in its 1998-99 budget, established the $150 million Climate Change Action Fund (CCAF). One of the objectives of CCAF is to provide Canadians with information on actions that they can take to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
