Download PDF Version (88 KB) There is broad scientific consensus on the reality of climate change. It is happening, and it has serious implications-for our health, our economy, and our future. Over the next 100 years, temperature increases of 3 to 4°C are projected for the Atlantic Provinces. Changes in precipitation patterns and an increase in extreme events are also anticipated. These climate changes are expected to be the largest and most rapid of the last 10,000 years and will have profound effects on our lives and the ecosystems that support us. Oceans
Scientists predict that climate warming will change ocean temperatures and affect marine ecosystems. Fish are sensitive to temperature, therefore changing temperatures would influence the distribution and population abundance of some species. Furthermore, climate warming may increase the range and extent of the organisms responsible for toxic algae blooms, such as red tides. Toxic blooms pose a serious threat to both fish populations and human health. Agriculture
A longer, warmer summer would lengthen the growing season and increase the yield of warm-weather crops, such as corn, soybeans, and grapes. However, these conditions could also result in more droughts and a greater need for irrigation. Warmer winters may benefit agriculture by reducing winter kill of forage and fruit, but create problems for farmers by increasing the range and abundance of insect pests.

Computers and networks were shut down at times, while employee productivity suffered and IT costs escalated. How Novell and Nova Scotia partnered on a solution was the subject of a recent BrainSHare presentation. You can downlaod the BrainShare Nova Scotia ZENworks presentation (BUS130) for more details, or read on for the summary version. The Patch Management Problem Nova Scotia was using Microsoft Software Update Services to deploy software patches for viruses. However, this approach had a number of drawbacks, such as:
  • IIS is required (IIS logs are used). Microsoft client is required. Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) is needed, which also needs Workstation Service. AutoUpdate Client (WUAU22.msi) is required.

List of issues to be taken up in connection with the consideration of the third periodic report of Canada United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights - Implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (June 10, 1998) Nova Scotia Government Response 3. What is the opinion of federal, provincial and municipal governments as to the effect of current or proposed trade and investment agreements such as NAFTA, FTAA and the MAI on their ability to fulfill obligations under the Covenant and what processes have been put in place to review this question? The goals of economic growth (global and domestic) , expanded production and employment opportunities , and non-discrimination are considered to be compatible and complementary to the objectives and obligations of the Covenant. As such, there are no processes at present to review the effects of such agreements on the Covenant. It is recognized , however, that negotiations will in future increasingly need to grapple with the realities of North-South issues , the rights of transnational enterprises vis-a-vis nation states, and the enhancement and enforcement of standards (e.g. health, environmental , work-related, educational, consumer protection) which should benefit the citizens of all countries. 10. Please provide the Committee with information from each Human Rights commission in Canada about cases in which the Covenant has been used in interpreting or applying human rights legislation.
