Welcome Faster Navigation, Genera Pages, and a New Look! More information is available faster than ever before on this latest release of the VCSU Macroinvertebrate Digital Key. Over the last two summers we have photographed and researched the genera of North Dakota aquatic insects. Now, that data is available here, along with genera keys, new search capabilities, tolerance values, and much more!
Take some time to explore these new features:
• Tolerance Values on the lowest taxa level
• Functional Feeding Groups
• Adult / Larvae switches on Coleoptera pages
• Pop-up Term Page references
• Term Page Link
• More complete references
• Faster database navigation
• Improved look • Acknowledgements About this key This key is meant to aid the identification of aquatic insects found in North Dakota. It is primarily meant to be used by students, citizen groups, and professionals. It will be useful for those who want to implement a biomonitoring program as well as those who are just interested in what little creatures live in our aquatic habitats. Keep in mind these keys are for a specific geographical area and probably aren’t suitable for general use in other areas. This key has been based on 6 years of collections carried out by the North Dakota Department of Health and 4 years of collecting carried out by Dr. Andre DeLorme's macroinvertebrate lab at Valley City State University. This key contains taxa lists, general keys, and range maps for the different types of aquatic insects found in North Dakota rivers and streams. This key is not a traditional dichotomous key. We have tried to create a more user friendly key that takes advantages of the computer to provide a near limitless amount of illustrations and information. This project is a work in progress, please feel free to contact us with any comments or suggestions you may have by clicking on the "Contact us" at the bottom of this page.

North Dakota city seeks to offer online tech degree The Associated Press City commissioners last week gave the Valley City-Barnes County Development Corp. permission to invest $150,000 to help expand Valley City State University's technology education program. "There really is a teacher shortage out there in technology education, and we believe we've got a niche," said Jennifer Feist, the corporation's director of development. Technology education focuses on teaching students while encouraging them to pursue such fields as robotics, engineering and electronics, Valley City State President Ellen Chaffee said.

Stacy Smith, who has an interest in a "disadvantaged woman owned business" in the area helped organize the meeting of 30 minority businesses. She apparently did not invite any white male business owners. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Ms. Smith said "We need to come together as a group to work toward getting the contracts that are due minorities and women" as racial and gender set-asides. "[However, Ms. Smith and other quota supporters are working against] a ruling by U.S. District Judge James Graham that minority set-asides were unconstitutional..."
