"Chick" Leasure Jr., who took over the post in early October from Tony Itteilag, are Restructuring, a department-wide mandate to keep all HHS operating divisions consistent with the secretary's leadership, and restructuring, which involves unpacking crates and settling into his new Bldg. 1 office after 36 years in a variety of executive positions throughout NIH. I used to say that I'd change my name to something more dignified when I grew up, but eventually I gave up on that." Charles E. "Chick" Leasure Jr.

provided by North Carolina State University alford House believes wastewater is too precious to dump down the drain. House, a North Carolina State University water quality specialist, has underscored his point by creating North Carolina's first and only self-contained wastewater treatment system for an office building. The system which uses a constructed wetland to imitate natural processes purifies and reuses 1,200 gallons of sewer water daily from the 60 employees who work in the building, a refurbished schoolhouse on the shore of Jordan Lake in Chatham County, NC. "We think of it as mimicking nature," said House, who works for NC State's Water Quality Group. "Nature has been cleansing water for millions of years, so we figure it's got the process figured out pretty well." Like nature, House's system uses soil, plants and microscopic organisms to filter and treat the wastewater. The treated wastewater is used to flush toilets in the building and to irrigate the lawn and foundation plantings.

LA: Gubernatorial Candidates Discuss Vouchers On Thursday, six candidates for governor offered their opinions on vouchers at a forum that was mainly to focus on education for preschoolers. State Superintendent of Education Cecil Picard moderated the forum Leach said he is staunchly opposed to vouchers , even as a test program. Ieyoub said that vouchers have failed in Cleveland and would rob public schools of much-needed cash. "It would be devastating to our public school system," Ieyoub said. Ewing, also taking a traditional Democratic position, said that he favors improving public schools and would only consider vouchers as a last resort. Blanco was less critical of vouchers, saying she would consider for them for students in poor schools. However, she contends that vouchers should face the same tests and accountability measures as public schools. Catholic leaders oppose that requirement. Treen would consider vouchers only on a limited scale, saying that their costs could get out of hand. Meanwhile, Jindal offered a defense of vouchers. "I would support giving them increased choices. Charter schools are another alternative worth considering for students in troubled schools," he said.

Triangle Area Schools and School Systems
Spring Semester 2004

Looking for a school's web page? Nearly all public schools have web sites linked to the school system web sites. So start with the link to the appropriate school system. Catholic school web sites are linked to the Diocese of Raleigh's school web site, except for the independent St. Thomas More Academy of Raleigh. Not all charter schools have home pages; we list links to the ones we are aware of. Private schools usually have web sites, and again we list links to the ones we are aware of. Is your school missing? Please do let us know if we are missing any charter school or private school web sites! If you can, please let us know the URL (Internet address) of the missing school. Thanks!
