So in the winter of 1994, I became the proponent for a USENET newsgroup on historical fiction so that people of similar interest could have an online forum to exchange ideas, info and reviews. The RFD for rec.arts.books.hist-fiction was made in late March, 1995, and after a heated discussion for three weeks, the rec.arts.books.hist-fiction newsgroup passed the vote and was officially launched in April, 1995. Thesedays, with the fully-grown Internet, r.a.b.hist-fiction is only one of many venues we fans of historical fiction can rely on. That's good news and bad news. Readers, writers, and publishers have to do a lot of surfing to find and access the right information or the right audience. But sites like Historical Novel Society are doing an excellent job in providing a focal point in our effort.
