No personal ads. No commercial ads. No whining.
  • Soc.singles is a discussion group. Newsgroups and websites intended for personal ads are down the hall and to the left. There are dozens of them; posting your personal ad to soc.singles will only convince potential mates who might otherwise have been interested that you're a clueless dork. Commercial ads will annoy your intended market and are likely to result in complaints to your service provider. There are newsgroups suitable for commercial ads; use them instead. Whine at your own risk. Your readers will let you know if they think you're whining and should just get over it. Don't take yourself or this newsgroup too seriously. If you find your blood pressure rising or you feel the urge to attack or threaten other writers, turn off your computer, return your tray table to its upright and locked position, take three deep breaths, and go play outside.
Finally, don't forget that while you are conversing with real people on the other side of your monitor, they are likely to be more bold and blunt than they are in real life because they can be. Expect to have your leg pulled, your chain yanked, and your goat gotten. Write stupid and angry responses at your own risk: you never know who else is reading and it'll only encourage people who get off on seeing just how much they can annoy you. For external use only, if rash persists, discontinue use and consult a physician.

List of Moderators for Usenet There are 280+ moderated groups in the 8 Usenet hierarchies, mostly in comp., soc., sci., and rec.; and about 80+ in alt.*. Some parallel models for moderation are: a refereed scientific journal a publication with a small subscriber base and an unpaid editor a restaurant with a polite but determined doorman Note that while the moderator controls the day-to-day content of a single medium - newsgroup, mailing list, journal, etc. - the moderator does not control the entire topic area. For instance, the readers could migrate to a related newsgroup or mailing list, and discuss the topic area there. Also note that when we say the moderator "approves" a message, we just mean that the moderator allows the message to be posted to the moderated newsgroup, and not that the moderator agrees (or disagrees) with the content of the message, or the position of the poster on any issue, and so forth.

NLP was developed in the mid-70s by John Grinder , a Professor at UC Santa Cruz and Richard Bandler , a graduate student. NLP, as most people use the term today, is a set of models of how communication impacts and is impacted by subjective experience . It's more a collection of tools than any overarching theory. Much of early NLP was based on the work of Virginia Satir , a family therapist; Fritz Perls , founder of Gestalt therapy; Gregory Bateson , anthropologist; and Milton Erickson , hypnotist. - Stever Robbins, NLP Trainer

Tolkien Newsgroups FAQ
by Steuard Jensen
(Created 17 Aug 1999) (Last updated 18 Jan 2004) For many years, the Tolkien Usenet newsgroups have been home to a pair of excellent Frequently Asked Questions lists about Tolkien and Middle-earth, compiled by William D. B. Loos. These sources contain a wealth of information, but are no longer maintained (the last update seems to have been in July 1996). This means that quite a few issues of current interest to the groups are not fully addressed in those documents. This FAQ supplements, updates, and expands on the earlier ones, though it is not meant to replace them entirely. It includes new and corrected information on some of the old discussions, numerous entries on topics not covered in the older FAQs, and a broad discussion of the Tolkien newsgroups and common standards of netiquette. This FAQ is intended both as an introduction for newcomers to the newsgroups and as a source of information for anyone exploring Middle-earth. The official HTML version of the FAQ is on the web at

1. Introduction
The following is a brief description of our function server architecture and of the
functionalities of each server. The current list of servers is derived from the functionalities
of a statistical survey processing application extended with GIS capabilities. Another part
of the RAINBOW project is showing that those functionalities can fulfil the needs of a
wide range of administrative applications.
The grouping of the functionalities into specific servers is preliminary. We use it as a grid
for information collection and further analysis. Finding a proper grouping is in fact a goal of the project.

Our architecture is based upon the specifications of the Object Management Group (OMG). Each server is built from distributed objects communicating in the same
