According to the Freudian school, dreams are the result of subconscious thoughts and desires. The other extreme attributes dreams to random "noise" in the neurons without special meaning. My own understanding is that dreams are made out of many small parts of memory and imagination that get combined to form dream imagery. This is a process that runs both consciously (cf. section 6) and subconsciously. I don't know and leave to speculation the reason why this is so. Subject: 2. What is News Xpress News Xpress
is a Windows application for accessing articles on the UseNet. Of the various types of newsreaders, NX is online, threaded, and requires a winsock compliant interface for TCP/IP. However, NX can be operated as a one-pass offline reader and can list article headers completely unthreaded. NX uses NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol), a standard for the distribution, inquiry, retrieval, and posting of articles within the Internet community. NX also takes advantage of the NNTP extension, XOVER, for accessing the overview database at the newsserver. An additional function of News Xpress is the ability to send (and send only) e-mail via SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), a standard for the distribution of e-mail traffic within the Internet community. The basic unit of UseNet newsgroups is the article (although the terms message and post are used interchangeably but incorrectly). Articles take the form of simple, readable text. That is, only those characters that you would find on a typewriter. (For those who do not know what a typewriter is, go ask your mother.) Collections of articles are placed in newsgroups when out in CyberSpace, and are placed in folders when stored on your computer (for later processing). Collections of newsgroups form a net and the net of interest here is the UseNet. Other nets include FidoNet, BITNet, CERFNet, and more. A lot of information accompanies an article but for all practical purposes, an article is identified by the newsgroup into which it was placed, its date (GMT), its author (or

    GENERAL INFORMATION
    What is a List Server?
Electronic mailing lists provide forums for Internet users to participate in discussions or receive information on thousands of topics. The software responsible for the management and distribution of these mailing lists to thousands of subscribers are commonly called "list servers" . A list server automatically distributes an e-mail message from one member of a list to all other members on that list. However, not all list servers are the same. There are different varieties of list server software that all a user to create and manage mailing lists. One of the most common is called LISTSERV . LISTSERV is now a commercial product sold by the developer of the software, Eric Thomas's L-Soft . The software was originally designed to operate on IBMs VM operating system and is now being made available on other common operating systems. LISTSERV is the software being operated by the National Library of Canada and the International Federation of Library Associations. Other common types of mailing list software are "majordomo" and "listproc" . Majordomo is a freeware system. Listproc is owned and developed by BITNET. Digests, electronic journals, announcements, and discussion groups are some of the types of content that are delivered through the thousands of lists available on the Internet.

    General Information
Most forums are in pairs of a newsgroup and a mailing list. Each one mirrors its mate: posts in one newsgroup will show up in its corresponding mailing list, and vice versa. mozilla.org serves its newsgroups at news://news.mozilla.org . The groups are distributed over Usenet, so your local news server may have them too. If your site does not carry those groups, and you would like it to, talk to your local news administrator. If you are a news administrator, you might need our public key to verify our control messages.
    How to Unsubscribe
Unsubscribing from mailing lists requires passwords. Passwords are mailed to you every month. You can also subscribe, unsubscribe and change your preferences with the web interface at mail.mozilla.org

Readers join topic-centered groups and post and respond to messages. Since newsgroup messages are distributed by a central server at your school, you can browse through a number of groups without the investment required of e-mail discussion lists. The news server at your school will determine which groups are available to you, but in general there are three basic types: (1.) Newsfeed groups which compile articles from professional newswires. (2.) Social groups devoted mostly to conversation. (3.) Hybrid groups which contain conversation, scholarly postings and news articles. Newsgroups are organized under several large headings, For example, under the prefix talk there are groups devoted to debating issues like gun control, politics and religion. Some servers have newsfeed organized under a clari heading. Other groups are organized under the

We've gone through the thousands of Usenet newsgroups and selected several that we believe will be valuable for composition classes. These aren't necessarily the best newsgroups on the Net, but they all get fairly heavy traffic, and they relate to topics that will broadly be of interest for composition classes. Think of this list as a starting point; a place to go when you're trying to get a sense for the kinds of conversations that take place on Usenet newsgroups. Note that we've linked these groups so that you can read them with your Web browser's newsreader. The interface on these newsreaders is sometimes quite difficult, so if you're having problems we suggest using a local client newsreaders.
