Jack Harris Other In only the third change of government in the 54 years since the province joined Canada, the Liberals were soundly defeated by Williams' Tories, who took almost 3/4 of the seats in the House of Assembly and more than half of the popular vote. The Liberals lost seven of their 17 cabinet ministers, plus the speaker of the house, from the preceding governments. The New Democrats' hopes to increase their seat total from 2 were frustrated.

ST.JOHN'S BRIEF: St. John's is the capital of Newfoundland and the largest city in the province. It surrounds a narrow landlocked harbor on the east coast of the Avalon Peninsula. It is at the extreme eastern end of Newfoundland and the most easterly city in North America. It is the main financial and commercial centre for Newfoundland St. John's ,has experienced a long and colourful history. Europeans commenced frequenting this harbour during the latter part of the Italian renaissance period around the beginning of the sixteenth century. St. John's because of its harbour and proximity to the fishing grounds, gained prominence as a commercial trading outpost for the Basques, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and English engaged in the fishery along the western side of the North Atlantic. Nutrition study points to problems
June 04, 2004 Dr. Barbara Roebothan recently published a study on nutrition in this province, and the results indicate less than healthy eating habits. Among other finding, Nutrition Newfoundland and Labrador states that a large part of the population is consuming a diet with more calories than recommended.
