    Residence Policy
Current Situation: The General Skills Policy ceased to exist in late November 2003. The Skilled Migrant Category is a numerical assessment with a passmark that changes from time to time. All applicants will be placed in a pool and selected by the New Zealand Immigration Services fortnightly using an arbitrary selection point. If successfully selected then an applicant may be invited to apply for Residence and prove with documentation all the claims made at the time of entering the pool. Investor Policy The Investor Category relates to persons who have accumulated significant assets off-shore, can demonstrate that those assets have been legitimately accumulated either by virtue of their own tax paid business endeavours or, in the case of gifted funds, that the person gifting the funds did so. They must be prepared to bring those assets to New Zealand (as cash) and invest them for at least 2 years. The process involves a significant level of disclosure. This is a complex Category requiring substantial paperwork to ensure the evidential demands are met. Good advice will ensure you are not forced to move any more money than is necessary. Applicants MUST meet a minimum standard of English.

A philosophy held by New Zealand Governments until the late 20th Century was that it was a good idea for government to be involved in many fields of commerce - so as to keep the others honest. Insurance was one of those fields. The government started a Government Life Insurance Department in 1869. It did not restrict itself to life insurance and late in its existence sold other sorts of policies. It used a lighthouse as its corporate symbol. When sea travel was the only way New Zealand was linked to the rest of the world and a common experience of many, the symbolism of safety with a lighthouse must have been more powerful than perhaps it is today.

Prescriber Update No.19:22-23 Medsafe Editorial Team Cisapride (Prepulsid™) causes QT-prolongation which may worsen to life-threatening torsade de pointes. The WHO database holds 159 reports of these events. Many patients were taking interacting medicines, most commonly erythromycin, fluconazole, clarithromycin and amiodarone. Excessive dose and electrolyte disturbances also featured in the cases.
Cisapride should be avoided with substances which inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4, with other agents which prolong the QT-interval, in patients with predisposing factors for arrhythmia or pre-existing QT-prolongation and in patients with hepatic failure. Cisapride can cause QT-prolongation
An article published in Prescriber Update in February 1997 advised of the possibility of QT-prolongation with cisapride (Prepulsid™). At that time it was not possible to be confident of the causal association. Since that time further data, including clinical studies, have become available confirming the association. reports of QT-prolongation and/or torsade de pointes in WHO database
At the end of July 1999, the WHO database held 159 reports of QT-prolongation and/or torsade de pointes with cisapride. 82 of these cases involved torsade de pointes. Death was the outcome in 11 cases. In around half of the cases the patient was taking an interacting medicine, most commonly erythromycin, fluconazole, clarithromycin and amiodarone. Excessive dose and electrolyte disturbances were factors in a small number of cases.

New Zealand Government and Microsoft New Zealand Finalise New Licensing Framework AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Monday, 16 June 2003. Press Release: New Framework Provides Government Agencies with Optional Licensing Programs Designed for Value and Flexibility Wellington, New Zealand - Monday, June 16, 2003 - Representatives from Microsoft New Zealand and the New Zealand government have agreed on a new licensing framework agreement. This agreement will supersede the G2000 agreement, which expires in two waves; 30 June and 30 September this year. The new framework named G2003, will provide eligible government agencies with a way to license Microsoft software. The G2003 licensing framework is optional and non-exclusive and eligible government organisations can take advantage of this at their own discretion. Eligible government agencies are able to sign up from 1 July 2003 and can do so for up to a three-year term. Warwick Sullivan, Chief Technology Officer, New Zealand Defence Force, was one of the representatives for the broader government negotiation team and said the diversity of agencies represented at the talks with Microsoft New Zealand was a key factor in producing the best agreement.
