    Web Guidelines
    Development and adoption by government agencies of the Web Guidelines to ensure government websites are well managed and accessible to the people using them.
    Current version of the Web Guidelines
    Version 2.1 is the current version of the Web Guidelines. The Cabinet paper and Minute of decision can be viewed here. Version 2.1 incorporates feedback on a draft released for public comment in October 2002. A reference group comprising agency and industry representatives reviewed relevant feedback and recommended amendments to the E-government Unit as custodian of the Guidelines. Version 2.1 has new guidelines on
    • use of CSS2 use of access keys.
    Overview
    The Web Guidelines establishes a standard for public sector websites in New Zealand. The major focus of the Guidelines is accessibility - removing impediments to online access to government. Accessible websites can be used by people regardless of disability, use of the latest technology or the availability of fast Internet connections. The Guidelines also provide practical ways to provide economical and equitable access to trustworthy information and services, reflecting the core values of the Public Service in New Zealand.

    What is the NZGLS metadata standard?
    The NZGLS metadata standard is the official New Zealand Government standard for creating discovery-level metadata (see Cabinet Circular CO (02) 3 ). The standard is based closely on two well established standards: the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set and the Australian Government Locator Service.
    Maintenance of the standard
    The management of the standard is overseen by Archives New Zealand as custodian, with support from an expert NZGLS Working Group consisting of representatives from across government.
