Letter from Cheri New Years is the great equalizer holiday. Regardless of cultural backgrounds, ethnicity, religion or economic stature, the death of one year and the birth of a new one is cause for revelry. In some cases the celebration may take place on different dates, depending on the calendar followed, but a new year is always a reason to celebrate. That said, the ways people mark the holiday and the traditions that are integral to the ritual are as diverse as the patchwork quilt of cultures from which they originate. We've tried to assemble information for different types of New Year's celebrations, but this channel is by no means complete.

Metallic Confetti Metallic Confetti Metallic Confetti New Years months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds left until 2005 January first, the beginning of a New Year, a year of new beginnings, new hopes, and new adventures. But why January 1st? Well, to fully understand this we must travel back in time, back to antiquity. During this time the start of the new year was in the middle of March. This is quite logical since this time of year life begins to emerge from the dead of winter. Leaves begin to turn green, flower buds begins to open, and there are signs of vegetation everywhere. Hibernating animals begin to make an appearance and the births of baby creatures are prominent. Then along came Julius Caesar with his own ideas. During a trip to Egypt, Caesar had seen a marvelous calendar. He brought it back to Rome where he and his scholars began to interpret and tamper with it to create the Julian Calendar. Unfortunately, while making these changes they completely lost the accurateness of the Egyptian calendar. They decided on January 1st to begin the year.

I have forty five years of cooking experience. is the first day in the first Malayalammonth of Medam (March April) and Varshapirappu is Tamil new Year.
http://www.bawarchi.com/festivals/
India, the vibrant land of mythological tales, of Gods and Goddesses and a thousand beliefs, has evolved over centuries as a mystic land of festivals. Every occasion you can dream of is celebrated with gaiety, pomp and fevour. These colourful and happy festivals bind the people of the nation across various states and religions in a unique way and provide a spectacle that cannot be be experienced anywhere else in the world. There is an underlying similarity in many of the festivals as are the stark differences in the styles and forms of celebrations observed by different religions. What is unfailingly common and the joyous reason to celebrate is the various gastronomic and aesthetic delights that mark all such celebrations. Bawarchi.com introduces a special section devoted to the various festivals of India, which is a humble effort to unravel the mythological tales behind many of the popular festivals, unrestricted by any one religion, caste or belief.

India is a country of festivals. There are many festivals and every festival has some special dish which is cooked in the homes. I have written special recipes for the specific festivals of India. I have forty five years of cooking experience.

New Years Around the World
Introduction
This is a social studies unit on New Year's traditions around the world. It is geared toward lower elementary, about the third grade level. This unit focuses on Strand 2 of the Michigan Framework for Social Studies Education , the Geographic Perspective. As stated, the unit will move the students toward the following (broad) goal: "Students will use knowledge of spatial patterns on earth to understand processes that shape human environments and to make decisions about society." this unit will zero in on Standard 2.1 - Diversity of People, Places, and Cultures. The New Year theme was chosen because, though they may differ in time and place, New Year's traditions are found throughout the world. This is an excellent way to learn about different cultures. Hopeful outcomes are congruent with the goals; that the students will come away with a better understanding of the cultures and traditions of other countries. This unit will cover five distinctly different New Year's traditions, beginning with those in the United States, and including those in Ecuador, Greece, and China. The unit also covers the New Year's traditions of the Jewish people.

Give gifts from the kitchen this year. Your friends and family will love them! Christmas Eve is fiesta time when you're celebrating Noche Buena Start the New Year right with the FoodFit Diet and Fitness Club
New Year's Eve Party!
By Joyce Goldstein This New Year's Eve, rather than go out, why not celebrate the New Year at home with good friends and family. If ever there was a night to splurge, New Year's Eve is it. Fortunately dining at home costs considerably less than dining out, so your budget doesn't have to be stretched too far. Mix and Match for More Fun Although ritual may be rewarding in that it connects us to tradition, I am suggesting that you break out of your routine this year. Instead of giving an extravagant formal seated supper, with all of the attendant performance anxiety, why not have a casual buffet and serve an assortment of plates that can be mixed and matched easily. Your guests will be more relaxed, and so will you. As opposed to formal plated service, the buffet format allows people to eat as little or as much as they like. If they don't eat meat, there still will be enough interesting items for them to try. Yes, eating healthy is important, but this is a once a year indulgence, so a bit of dietary lenience is probably justified.
