Weather Sections Features Movie based on Tolkien novel to show at library Monitor Staff Report
A new movie is coming up in Mesa Public Library's science fiction/fantasy film series at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Upstairs Meeting Rooms. Movie-goers are invited to bring their families for this animated version of a classic Tolkien tale (1977, rated PG). As always, the movie is free and so is the popcorn, courtesy of Friends of Mesa Public Library.
Due to licensing restrictions, the library is not permitted to use the title of library premises (but there are some pretty obvious hints in the text below). Those who can't guess are welcome to come by the library to pick up a brochure, which has all the details, including the titles of all the films in the science fiction/fantasy film series. In next week's film, a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins was just minding his own business when his occasional visitor Gandalf the Wizard drops in one night.
One by one, a whole group of dwarves drop in and before he knows it, Bilbo has joined their quest to reclaim their kingdom, taken from them by an evil dragon named Smaug. The only problem is that Gandalf has told the dwarves that Bilbo is an expert burglar, but he isn't. Other books by J.R.R. Tolkien made that have been made into movies include "Lord of the Rings," "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King."
