http://www.sde.state.nm.us/div/ais/lic/geninfo.html
Professional Licensure Unit General Information The New Mexico educator licensure system is a three-tiered structure based on the attainment and demonstration of Public Education Commission (PEC) adopted competencies. Level 1 (3-years) Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Teacher preparation program
  • Pass Exam
Features:
  • Professional Development Plan (PDP)
  • Support for beginning teachers
Level 1 is the entry-level license granted for three years based on completion of a bachelor's degree, an approved teacher education program, and passage of the required licensure examination During the three-year period, the teacher must be placed on a PDP and be provided a structured support or mentoring system by the school district. Both the PDP and the structured support systems are designed, implemented, and funded at the local district level. Level 2 (9-years) Requirements:
  • Satisfactory demonstration of competencies
Features:
  • PDP
To receive level 2 licensure, the teacher must satisfactorily demonstrate the Public Education Commission's required competencies as verified by the local superintendent through the staff evaluation process. A level 2 license is issued for nine years and can be renewed every nine years based on the satisfactory demonstration of competencies. Again, a PDP must be in place continually.
