ETS Hosts Central New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership
Education Foundations Come Together To Coordinate Efforts, Inform Public Princeton, N.J. (December 10, 2002) - Leaders from central New Jersey's education foundations joined together today at the Educational Testing Service's Chauncey Conference Center in Princeton, New Jersey to coordinate their efforts to support their school districts through public relations, fundraising and programming and to educate the public about their mission to improve public schools. "All of the education foundations in central New Jersey will benefit from this partnership. We are so thankful to ETS for hosting our inaugural meeting," said Diane Senerth, Executive Director of the Lawrence Township Education Foundation. "Without their support, our group may not have come together so quickly. This kind of inter-community cooperation is difficult to establish, but has enormous potential for public education throughout the region." Attending the meeting were representatives for education foundations from East Windsor, Ewing, Hamilton, Hopewell Valley, Lambertville/South Hunterdon, Lawrenceville, Montgomery, Princeton, Trenton and West Windsor. Also attending were representatives of ETS. The meeting included panel discussions on board membership and foundation relationships with schools, businesses and communities.

The library relies heavily on volunteers to help 511 students choose and check out books weekly from a collection of nearly 20,000 books. The Media Center has been the beneficiary of many fine books bought and donated at the annual HHSA Book Fair and through the generosity of Home and School allocations. This past spring, HHSA allocated funds to purchase new holiday books as well as wordless books which will be used in a writing project by sixth grade language arts students. At the Book Fair last fall, over 100 new books were donated by Haworth parents. Many thanks for your generosity. Stop in and visit the Library/ Media Center; parents may also become patrons and borrow books from the collection. Have you been "caught reading" lately? Check out our bulletin board for likely suspects!

The Institute for Justice is a libertarian public interest law firm. Through strategic litigation, training, communications and outreach, the Institute for Justice advances a rule of law under which individuals can control their own destinies as free and responsible members of society. It litigates to secure economic liberty, school choice, private property rights, freedom of speech and other vital individual liberties, and to restore constitutional limits on the power of government. In addition, it trains law students, lawyers and policy activists in the tactics of public interest litigation to advance individual rights. Through these activities the Institute challenges the ideology of the welfare state and illustrates and extends the benefits of freedom to those whose full enjoyment of liberty is denied by government. Labor at the Crossroads Summer Schedule Learning To Look Launches National Network of Summer Institutes How might illustrations by Frederic Remington, paintings by Alfred Bierstadt, and sculptures by Edmonia Lewis help advance our understanding of the frontier past? What can students learn from a nineteenth-century slave narrative set alongside J. T. Zealy's 1850 photographic portraits of Columbia, South Carolina, slaves "Delia" and "Jack"? And what questions about the past does such evidence leave unanswered? The study of visual sources has advanced in significant ways in recent years due in large part to the development of multimedia technologies such as the Internet. Simultaneously, cross-disciplinary collaborations among scholars studying and educators teaching American history and culture have improved students' ability to interpret and contextualize visual sources. This summer, ASHP/CML's national network of new media and pedagogy centers will undertake a promising course of study for improving teaching about the past through the use of visual sources.

New Jersey Set to Affront Human Dignity
New Law Will Legalize Embryo Research, Cloning, and Fetal Harvesting
Chicago, Illinois - January 2, 2004 - The New Jersey Legislature has passed a bill that, if signed by the Governor, would make the state one where some of the most terrible crimes against humanity can be legally perpetuated. Promoters of the bill have argued that the legislation bans cloning and promotes embryonic stem cell research. However, bill S1909/A2840 will not only explicitly allow embryonic stem cell research, it will also allow somatic cell nuclear transfer (cloning) and the development of unborn clones up until birth. It only explicitly prohibits cloning "an individual" which the bill defines as, "the replication of a human individual by cultivating a cell with genetic material [the SCNT cloning process] through the egg, embryo, fetal and newborn stages into a new human individual." Legal analysis of the bill by Prof. Gerard Bradley at Notre Dame Law School currently available on the
