The New Jersey State Flag
The following memorandum appears in the Minutes of the New Jersey General Assembly for March 11, 1896 on page 347: "The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Mr. (Charles F.) Hopkins (of Morris County) offered the following memorandum, which was read: On March 23rd, 1779 during the war of the Revolution, the Continental Congress, by resolution authorized and directed the Commander-in-Chief to prescribe the uniform, both as to color and facings, for the regiments of the New Jersey Continental Line. In accordance with this resolution, General Washington, in General Orders dated Army Headquarters, New Windsor, New York, October 2nd, 1779, directed that the coats for such regiments should be dark blue, faced with buff. On February 28th, 1780, the Continental War Officers in Philadelphia directed that each of said regiments should have two flags, viz: one the United States flag and the other a State flag, the ground to be of the color of the facing. Thus the State flag of New Jersey became the beautiful and historic buff, as selected for it by the Father of His Country, and it was displayed in view of the combined French and American armies in the great culminating event of the War of the Revolution, the capitulation of a British army under Lieutenant General Earl Cornwallis at Yorktown.

Address to the New Jersey State Senate
Trenton, New Jersey
February 21, 1861
President-elect Lincoln spoke separately to each branch of the New Jersey legislature on his inaugural journey to Washington. In the Senate, he referred to Trenton's Revolutionary War heroics and spoke of himself as a "humble instrument in the hands of the Almighty, and of this, his almost chosen people, for perpetuating the object of that great struggle."
Address to the New Jersey General Assembly
Trenton, New Jersey
February 21, 1861
In Lincoln's short remarks to the New Jersey House of Representatives, he attested to his peaceful intentions concerning the present national strife, but when he added "it may be necessary to put the foot down firmly," his audience roared its approval with loud cheering. Gentlemen, I have already spoken longer than I intended, and must beg leave to stop here. Source: The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, edited by Roy P. Basler. Welcome to Area 45' s web page. The General Service Area 45 Committee and Assembly are A.A. entities whose members represent their respective Groups. In their proceedings and actions they elect the Delegate to the General Service Conference and develop the Southern New Jersey A.A. voice to each other and to A.A. as a whole. Southern New Jersey was formed as part of the first Conference and is scheduled to hold elections every odd year. Term of office for those elected is two years, commencing with January 1 in an even year and completing on December 31 in the odd year following. Elected members of the Panel coordinate their activities in order to serve the Area. A suggested activity schedule description for each Panel, Section, District, and each Area Committee office is included in our service manual, as well as an outline of GSR activities. Each office plays its role in contributing to the well-being of A.A. in our Area. Our primary purpose is clearly stated for our Districts, Committees, and the Assembly as a whole in the Fifth Tradition: "Each group has but one primary purpose - to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers"

The Borough of Seaside Park, located on the Barnegat Barrier Island in Ocean County, New Jersey, was incorporated in 1898. Seaside Park is a small town of only 0.77 square miles with a year-round population of just over 2,200 residents. With almost two miles of shoreline on the Atlantic Ocean, the borough’s main industry is summer tourism. Seaside Park is bordered on the north by the Borough of Seaside Heights and its amusement arcades, rides and boardwalk. To the south is South Seaside Park, which is an unincorporated section of Berkeley Township, and Island Beach State Park.
Seaside Park is located across the Barnegat Bay from Toms River, the County seat of Ocean County. It is easily reached by Route 37 from the west (Garden State Parkway exit 82 or Route 70 to Route 37 east) or Route 35 from the north (Garden State Parkway exit 98, Route 34 east to Route 35 south).
The Borough of Seaside Park has a Mayor-Council form of government. The mayor serves a four year term, while six council members serve three year terms, with two council members up for election each year. As Seaside Park is located on a barrier island, there are special considerations:

New Jersey And The Civil War 1861 - 1865 Home 1860 Census New Jersey's Underground Railroad New Jersey's Ladies Preserve Our History ... Timeline of the Civil War New Jersey, the third state to be admitted to the Union, is called the crossroads of the American Revolution because it held a key geographical position at the center of the new nation and the armies were in or crossing it throughout the war. It was heavily involved in the fighting due to the troop movements through the state and its key geographic position between New York City and Philadelphia. New Jersey had more engagements than any other state during the war, closely followed by South Carolina.
New Jersey was a state split by the Civil War. Economically, it was tied to markets in the South; it was the last northern state to abolish slavery; Newark Journal editorial writer, Edward N. Fuller, supported secession; and it divided its electoral votes in the Presidential election of 1860 (Lincoln would receive 4 and Stephen A. Douglas, 3). To make amends with the leaders of the state, Lincoln stopped at the New Jersey State House and spoke with the legislature on his way to his inauguration.
