Enter a name to search for New Jersey birth certificates. This website was created to provide genealogists with access to New Jersey birth certificates.. Additional information on how to obtain New Jersey birth certificates is available below. Return to Birth Certificates home page.
Birth certificates contain information about a person's birth, including the date of birth, place of birth, sometimes the names of the mother and father, and even the physician who attended the birth. Birth certificates issued by state and local governments will often include the place of residence, and the mother's maiden name. Birth certificates can be used to establish a person's date and place of birth. Most birth certificates provide the mother's maiden name. Birth certificates are often required to obtain other documents, licenses or to prove eligibility. This webpage gives you access to all of the online databases containing New Jersey birth records, New Jersey birth ceritificates, New Jersey birth notices, New Jersey birth indexes, and other related New Jersey genealogy records. Birth records have long been used to help with genealogy research. They are considered to be "primary source" records, because the information is recorded by an eye witness, at the time the birth takes place. The Internet has allowed people to store birth records into various online archives. This has brought access to online birth records much more easier for genealogy researchers.

New Jersey City Directories Online Search
Return to City Directories Homepage This guide to New Jersey city directory records was created to provide genealogists with access to most New Jersey directories from a single page.
City directories contain information about the location of a person's residence, whether they owned or rented their residence, their profession, and perhaps the names of relatives living at or near the same address. Frequently other information is provided including a death record for the year of the publication, the location of cemeteries, churches and other places important to genealogists. Directories have long been used to help with genealogy research. The Internet has allowed people to share city directory records via web sites. This has brought access to online records which can be searched through various means. Many old city directories are available for free usage on a variety of web sites. Some are available only via the purchase of CD-ROMs via ebay and some commercial organizations which specialize in scanning and making available these resources. Even more directories are available via subscription sites. Searching for directories on a search engine like Google.com

If your family tree has roots in Cape May County, the Cape May County Genealogical Library is the place to start your research. The library is located in an annex of the John Holmes House and collects records primarily on Cape May County families. Two major memorial collections include documents such as manuscripts, marriage, birth, death and cemetery records. Mayflower researchers can use the library to trace the large concentration of Pilgrim descendants in Cape May County. The Library building itself contains collections of Cape May County family documents, bibles, history and books by local authors. There are also historic maps including an 1872 Beer's depicting the names of the landowners along the major highways of that period.

Why So Valuable What Churches Existed Where New York Reformed Dutch Churches New Jersey Reformed Dutch Churches ... A Final Word One of the most valuable tools for a researcher looking for Dutch ancestors in America are the Reformed Dutch Church Records. In its infancy, this Church was referred to as the Reformed Dutch Church, but in recent times, this Church has sometimes come to be known as the Dutch Reformed Church.
Why So Valuable
What Churches Existed Where
Anytime a church record is consulted, a certain pattern is followed, whether the record is in Dutch, or has been translated into English. In English, the pattern is the date of baptism (sometimes the date of birth also), the name of the child, the names of the parents and the names of the witnesses. If the record is kept in Dutch, the same pattern is followed, only the following words are used. Kinder = Child. Ouders = parents. Geboren = Born. Gedopt = Baptized. Getuygen = Witnesses. One may ask, what church do I look for and where do I find its records? These two questions are addressed in the following two sections. Before looking at these two sections, however, here are examples of how records are kept. English Translation Example: (Schraalenburgh Reformed Dutch Church)
