A. Technical Assistance:
Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey employs expert program specialists who ensure that programs are implemented according to established standards throughout New Jersey. Current programs include:
Every Person Influences Children (EPIC)
Healthy Families:
Healthy Families targets parents-to-be and new parents who demonstrate certain established risk factors, and offers parents one-on-one basic parenting education, emotional support, and assistance with accessing health care and other community resources by way of home visitation by a professional or paraprofessional. PCA-NJ is contracted by the New Jersey Department of Human Services to provide technical assistance to Healthy Families sites, based in community organizations, in 18 locations in New Jersey. Healthy Families trains over 200 professionals and paraprofessional each year, and reaches about 850 families.
Parents as Teachers (PAT):
Family Outreach Project:
the Family Outreach Project is a collaborative effort among child care/early childhood education centers under contract in the "Abbott" school districts, local community-based organizations, and PCA-NJ. The goals of this project are to increase parents' knowledge of child development; to increase family involvement in their child's education both at home and at the child care/early childhood center; and to help families access local resources that result in healthy outcomes for children. PCA-NJ provides oversight of the state-wide project, coordinates trainings and is responsible for training all Family Workers in the Parents as Teachers program, and facilitates communication among collaborators. PCA-NJ works with 15 community-based organizations serving 31 Abbott districts, and supervises 15 MSWs and 600 family workers. The Family Outreach Project reaches some 19,000 families.
