    Education for New Brunswick
Dr. Mohan Iype, Assistant Dean N ew Brunswick is only one of two provinces that does not have a medical school. However, the Government of New Brunswick ensures that students from the province can enroll in the two medical schools in the Atlantic provinces and in schools in Quebec, by funding positions at these medical schools. Students from New Brunswick can however apply to any of the sixteen medical schools in the country. The province provides a sound educational milieu for the many students who pass through its healthcare centres and community practices. The faculty is dedicated to ensuring that the students attain the highest level of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are possible. They introduce students to a variety of practice settings they will face when they are ready to become practitioners in their own right. A recognition of the need to embark upon lifelong learning and the need to constantly keep rejuvenated becomes inculcated in them.

Good morning, and thank you for coming. As we gather here this morning, marking the beginning of my fourth term as the 62ND Mayor of the City of New Brunswick, I am reminded of all we have accomplished together. Let me first say thank you to Judge Hamlin for his good counsel and friendship over the years and for graciously administering the oath of office to me for the fourth time. To my Pastor, Father Joe. You have been a great friend to my family and me for many years. I recall, like it was yesterday, Becky, while in second grade, standing in line waiting to go to Father Joe for her First Penance and refusing to go to any other available priest. And you, while playing with the children in the elementary school cafeteria, carrying Casey as a kindergartner, on your shoulders. While I know you're in great shape, I'd love to see you try that today. And to my friend, the Reverend Lonnie Ford, you have been there every step of the way these past twelve years, with a shared commitment to do what is right and honorable and always for the betterment of the community.

Click on the map for a full size version The Eastern New Brunswick Area covers the New Brunswick coastline bordering the Gulf of St. Lawrence and that part of New Brunswick traversed by rivers flowing into the Gulf. Not only is the Eastern New Brunswick Area vast in size, it also possesses the largest number of French-speaking fishers in the Gulf Region (they account for nearly 60 per cent of all licence holders). Approximately 50 per cent of the DFO employees are bilingual in this area. DFO 's main office for Eastern New Brunswick is located in Tracadie-Sheila, and there are 13 detachments which deliver the Department's services throughout the area. Licensing is handled through the Tracadie-Sheila and Richibouctou offices. The area possesses about 50 small craft harbours between the estuary of the Restigouche River and the southeastern tip of New Brunswick's coastline. Ten of the 14 First Nations of the Gulf Region are located in eastern New Brunswick, accounting for over 80 per cent of the 11,000 Aboriginal people living on reserves within the Gulf Region.

Fodors Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island > Customer Review #1: Canadian Maritimes guide

I am planning a trip to the Canadian Maritimes the summer of 2002. I purchased Fodors Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI guide to assist in my plans. So far, I have found this book to be a valuable resource. It is arranged first by province, then by towns/sites within each area. For example, in the Nova Scotia section, there is basic opening information about the province (its history, culture, climate, etc), then there is a large section just for Halifax. Within that listing, you find numerous places for site seeing, place to eat, to lodge, to shop. One aspect of the book I especially like is called "Off the beaten path", where you can find unusual places worth visiting. The guide is print-only, with maps, so the only thing that could make it better would be a few photographs. I would recommend this book for anyone planning a visit to the Maritimes this year.
