Evolution, Behavior, and Culture
THE PROGRAM The Graduate Program in Anthropology at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has developed a new focus on the evolutionary biology of the behavior and culture of living humans and nonhuman primates. The concentration, developed in conjunction with Rutgers' Graduate School-New Brunswick, represents a renewal of an emphasis on evolution and behavior that goes back to the New Brunswick anthropology department's founding in the 1960s by Robin Fox, a pioneer in this area of research. Qualified students who are interested in pursuing this exciting intellectual territory will work closely with Rutgers faculty who are at the forefront of the rapidly developing field. Students will also find experts in a variety of closely related fields at the university, including genetics, paleontology, archaeology, cultural anthropology, human ecology, and ethology. Anthropology at Rutgers-New Brunswick The New Brunswick anthropology department sponsors the new focus or concentration on evolution, behavior, and culture as part of its program in evolutionary anthropology. One of the world's leading centers for the study of human origins and prehistory, the department is home to the Center for Human Evolutionary Studies, and faculty members supervise both the Koobi Fora Field School in Kenya and excavations at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania. The graduate program and department also include a strong program in cultural anthropology, with faculty members who work in a variety of settings around the world, including South Asia, East Asia, East Africa, Australia, and the United States. The graduate faculty also includes members of the Departments of Human Ecology, Political Science, Religion, and African Studies, as well as members of the Graduate School of Education.

is BellaOnline's Canadian Culture Host New Brunswick - Largest Whirlpool On a fine day in July, we drove through the eastern end of the US, crossing into Canada and hunting the Giant Whirlpool.
West Quoddy Head From a morning expedition to puffins on Machias Seal Island, we headed east further. At one point, a mother doe and baby fawn were in our way! We slowed for them, but they got scared and bounded back into the woods.
In hardly any time at all, we were passing the sign for Lubec, easternmost town in the US. Lubec is the southeast tip of Maine, right in the Bay of Fundy. We followed the signs to the state park, and soon were at the West Quoddy lighthouse. Candy stripes, mimiced everywhere in Maine, this was set up by Thomas Jefferson at the easternmost point in the US.
Bob was exhausted by now and took a short nap. I wandered by the lighthouse, then both of us napped. The tide was very low still, and the whole area around here was practically dry. Now, though, the tide started to come in. We hoped to be at Old Sow, the biggest whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere, at 2 hrs before high tide, 5pm. That was when it was at its most active.
East Quoddy Head We drove back into Lubec, to the spot of another huge whirlpool - under the bridge between Lubec and Camponello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. We crossed into Canada, amusing the customs agent. *poof* all the flags were Canadian, signs gave limits in kilometers.

and by The World Health Organization (WHO) . The project's goal was to develop a protocol for producing low-cost, high-quality rabies vaccine for human and animal health care. After twelve years of designing perfusion systems, developing formulations, careful screening, yield optimization and testing potency and dosage levels, in 1999, the facility was granted a license to produce and sell a human rabies vaccine in Colombia. Now, Dr. Aycardi, working under the auspices of the Rockefeller Foundation, is assisting researchers in other developing nations to set up vaccine production facilities using the technology he helped to pioneer.
Dr. Aycardi stunned the Nanjing audience by explaining that his production methods, using VERO cells grown in an NBS 30-Liter sterilizable-in-place bioreactor, can produce one million doses of human rabies vaccine per year

New Brunswick frescoes built to last for ages
When churchgoers leave George Street and enter St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, the Rev. Harry Hayden hopes they feel they are entering a spiritual realm. To help encourage that feeling, Russian artist Philip Davydov has turned a white ceiling above the church's altar into a colorful religious vision, creating a fresco expected to last for ages and that Hayden hopes will transport worshipers to a different place. "It adds the ability to enter into a world that perhaps isn't the kind of world that we live in," said Hayden, pastor of the church. "Icons and frescoes are windows by which the world beyond our world enters into this world and doorways by which we can enter that world." Working tirelessly for three weeks, Davydov, 28, has created a vision of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and St. John the Evangelist the church's patron in vivid reds and blues in a style consistent with the Christian traditions of medieval Western Europe.

New Brunswick
Bordering on Nova Scotia, Quebec and the American State of Maine, New Brunswick is almost rectangular in shape, extending 322 kilometres north to south and 242 kilometres east to west. The existence of New Brunswick was known to European fishermen as early as the fifteenth century. At that time, the region was inhabited by the Malecite and Micmac Indians. The first settlers did not arrive until 1604. These French settlers, known as Acadians, endured British and French feuds over the area for over two centuries. New Brunswick joined the other provinces in 1867 to form the Dominion of Canada. Today, New Brunswick still has the highest percentage of Francophones outside Quebec. The coasts and river valleys are the most populated areas. Saint John is the largest city, followed by Moncton and Fredericton, the provincial capital.  New Brunswick's economy is led by manufacturing industries such as food processing and beverages, pulp and paper, metal processing, transportation equipment, processing of non-metallic ores and primary metals-natural resources are abundant. Fishing and agriculture are also very important, and there has been a recent influx of high-tech industries.
