EDUCATION
Carson City School District The Carson City School District’s long history has opened countless doors to academic achievement for our community’s young people. The district serves 3,890 kindergarten through fifth grade students at six neighborhood elementary schools. Two middle schools for grades six through eight serve 2,180 students. These schools provide increased learning for all children through standards-based curriculum and integrated technology systems. A long-term bond project has allowed many schools to renovate or remodel in recent years. Carson High School is a comprehensive four-year school with a population of 2,574 students, and a faculty and staff of 208. The high school offers many programs that allow students to extend themselves beyond the general curriculum. Among these are the Advanced Placement programs which offer courses in art, English, government, psychology, and Spanish; a Cooperative Occupational Experience program to allow senior students to work in the community; and an extensive prep/dual and college credit program. Qualified students enrolled in this program can earn up to 70 units of college credit.

Education Thousands of new residents, hundreds of new homes, and dozens of new communities all add up to one thing: an ongoing need for schools and teachers. Today, the Clark County School District ranks as the sixth-largest school district in the United States. To keep pace, the district's building program provides approximately $3.5 billion to construct 88 new schools through 2008, while improving every area school already in existence. These number are indicative of the commitment make to education by southern Nevada politicians, voters, educators and the private sector. Casino Dealers Schools Professional dealing schools, vocational training: Learn how to become a casino dealer/croupier/croupiere The gaming schools listed below (USA and other countries) employ instructors who are licensed to teach gaming procedures to aspiring casino dealers. For many entering the profession of a casino dealer will include a stop at a school of dealing. Enrollees usually choose one or two games to specialize in, learning the particulars of that game from the instructors and practicing with class members. In some countries such as the United Kingdom, a casino dealer usually can deal most if not all of the games in the casino. Most gaming schools offer flexible schedules, with day and evening classes. Admission requirements are also similar, with classes running from approximately four weeks for poker to about twelve weeks for craps. Depending on the length of the class and game procedures being taught costs vary from $500 for a short session on blackjack dealing to $2,000 or more for extensive craps training. In Nevada enrollees must be at least 21 years old by the date they are scheduled to graduate from the dealer school. You must be 21 or older to work in Nevada's casinos. These guidelines are similar for New Jersey dealing schools, since you must be 21 or older to work in Atlantic City casinos.

Reno Colleges
Reno Colleges : A directory of information on Reno colleges , Reno universities, and Reno schools that can help you decide which Reno college is best for you. The colleges listed below offer a range of different programs, certificates, and degrees, and are based in or near the city of Reno. Several of these colleges are directly in Reno; other nearby campus locations are shown along with their distance from Reno. Many of the Reno colleges listed below are fully accredited - please check with the college you are interested in for their current status. In addition, all of the colleges listed below offer financial aid and job placement assistance. Note that classes from online colleges can be taken in Reno as well. The settlement that grew into Reno was founded in 1859 around a log bridge built to cross the Truckee River. The Central Pacific Railroad reached Nevada in 1869, and a depot was built, and the city of Reno was founded. Although Nevada’s economy relied on mining, other “entertainment” industries were used to keep the economy afloat during the down cycles of the mining industry, and Reno earned the title of “Sin City” because it hosted legal brothels and illegal gambling, and offered quick and easy divorces. Casinos and weddings still play a part in the everyday life of Reno, but the city’s economy depends on much more than these two “industries”. In fact Reno hosts some of the most important high tech industry names such as Cisco, Microsoft, amazon.com and Intuit, and is a center for some of the most important names in the financial and insurance market. The city has concentrated on business development and has attracted many large corporations, who take advantage of the good business and living conditions.

Nevada State Museum research associate Beverly Mobley and volunteer Michael Holbrook researched and designed the exhibit. Mobley will present a free public lecture about Stewart Indian School history at the museum on June 24. “A History of the Stewart Indian School”

The school’s curriculum focused on vocational training so that students could “take their place in society.” Boys were taught ranching, mechanics, painting and carpentry while girls attended classes in baking, cooking, sewing, laundry and practical nursing. In the late 1960s, the school shifted the focus of studies from vocational education to academics. Sports was an area of pride for the school. The Stewart “Braves” were a formidable opponent to competing schools such as the University of Nevada. Many students excelled, including Walter Johnson who was inducted into the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame in 1973 for track, football and basketball.

December 1997 STATION INFORMATION DATA SHEET - LAS VEGAS, NEVADA COMMUNITY DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY: The first settlement in Las Vegas (a Spanish word meaning "The Meadows") was recorded back in the early 1850s. It became a city in 1905 when the railroad announced that Las Vegas was designated a major division point. Prior to legalized gambling in 1931, Las Vegas was developing as an agricultural area. Las Vegas' fame as a resort area became prominent after World War II. Las Vegas is situated near the center of a broad desert valley which is almost surrounded by mountains ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 feet higher than the floor of the valley. The Las Vegas Valley, comprising about 600 square miles, runs from northwest to southeast, and slopes gradually upward on each side toward the surrounding mountains. Situated at the southern tip of Nevada and located in the Great Basin, it is approximately 285 miles northeast of Los Angeles, about 180 miles northwest of Phoenix, 420 miles southeast of San Francisco, and 430 miles south of Reno. Las Vegas, county seat of Clark County, is the largest metropolitan community in Nevada with a metropolitan population of more than 900,000 and a county population of over a 1,000,000.
