Project of the Month Mineral of the Month Nevada Geographic Brownie Materials: Butcher paper Prepared pan of brownies (or each student can bring in their own pan of brownies) Chocolate bars Chocolate kisses Chocolate chips Chocolate chips Frosting Food coloring Whipped cream This activity helps students learn about the geographical elements found in the state of Nevada. The students are active participants in making their own edible map of Nevada and will have fun learning geography while creating a delicious work of art! (Note: this activity can be adapted for use with any state) Instructions: Hang a road map of Nevada in the classroom to familiarize the students with the geographical shape of Nevada. Cut the bottom left corner off of the brownie to resemble the state of Nevada (or whichever state you are studying). Draw a map on a large piece of butcher paper showing the states that border Nevada and place the brownie on the paper. Discuss the geography of Nevada including its mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, etc. Use the chocolate bars (broken into pieces) for the Sierra Nevada Mountains on Nevada's western border. Use the kisses and chips for smaller mountain ranges such as: Goshute, Toiyabe, Silver Peak, Pahrangat, Sheep, Wilson, Delamar, Mormon and Spring mountains.
