NEPAL FAMILY HISTORY
Navigation Links: Meaning of Rajan Family Info Family Tree Nepal Family History ... Home Page How did the surname "Nepal" come to existence? There was the Great Migration of our early ancestors (the Aryans) from their ancient homeland, Airyanam Vaejo, in the North Pole due to the Ice Age glaciations that occurred in that ancient age. Their great journey was towards the South and the South-West, i.e. towards Iran, India, Greece, Russia, Germany and other European countries. Our ancestors came from the Iranian plateau and invaded the Indus River valley (in Pakistan) in ca. 1500 B.C. displacing the darker-skinned native population (the Dravidians). Then during the Rigvedic Period (1300-1000 BC), the ancestors spread east and south from the river valley towards India, establishing elaborate priestly rituals (Brahmin) and the beginning of the caste system. Their first journey was towards Sapta Sindhu (seven rivers) (Kashyap Giri or Hindu Kush Mountains). Among them, the Shaks moved southwards and entered Central India (East India of South Sindh) via Shakdwip. The Khas (my ancestors) moved northwest towards the Eastern Himalayas (Maanas Pradesh) - the Northern Hills of Sindh and central Meru, Pamir Plateau, Ural and Chitral, the Hills of Jalandhar and Kashmir Valley. This was around 8th century B.C. Then our ancestors lived around West Badrinath. Around 13th century A.D., after abandoning Kedar Bhumi, Parbat Pundit entered Sinja Karnali (Sijja Sheridhuska village). His elder brother Subal Pundit remained there. Jay Bidhyadhar Pundit (who was free of 36 taxes), the descensdent of Parbat pundit, had 4 sons and this is what they became afterwards:

    Some history of the khukuri
The khukuri , the national knife of Nepal, is an ancient blade-form: khukuris of five hundred years or more hang from the walls of Nepal's National Museum, dating back to the Malla period. Some have suggested that khukuri design is linked to the ancient Greek kopis knife and that the form was introduced into the Indian subcontinent by Alexander's Macedonian army, which invaded north-west India in the 4th-century B.C. If so, then the khukuri is perhaps also linked to the ancient Egyptian kopesh blade, likely the model for the Greek

History Nepal's precarious position between two of the world's political giants-India and China-has dictated its history for centuries. The early history of Nepal is inextricably interwoven with Hindu and Buddhist mythology, and consequently it is often difficult to discern what is historical fact and what is myth. Reality or Myth? There is evidence that as early as 700 B.C., people were living in the Kathmandu Valley. The two Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata both mention the Kirantis, who lived in the mountains north of India-an area that coincides with the Kathmandu Valley. A fifth-century inscription at Changu Narayan, a remote and little-visited, though fascinating, temple in the Kathmandu Valley, indicates that the Kiranti dynasty lasted from the eighth century B.C. to the third century A.D. The Kirantis may themselves have been descendants of an even older dynasty, the Ahirs, shepherds who supposedly were the first rulers of the Kathmandu Valley. Over the centuries, there were successive migrations into the mountains by refugees, nomads, and conquering armies from Tibet, India, and even Central Asia. Both the Ahirs and the Kirantis are likely to have migrated into the mountains as well. The Enlightened One

    http://www.itdg.org/html/itdg_nepal/about.htm
ITDG Nepal works to improve the livelihoods of the poor and disadvantaged by implementing sustainable development. We aim to achieve this by building technical skills and undertaking the research, application and dissemination of appropriate technologies.
    History
ITDG started its work in Nepal in 1979. For almost two decades ITDG was mainly involved in micro-hydro sector by developing and transferring technologies, building the capabilities of local manufacturers, imparting knowledge and skills to the rural entrepreneurs, and advocating for appropriate policies and institutions. After the establishment of the Country Office in 1998, ITDG Nepal diversified its activities in the energy programme from micro-hydro to other forms of renewable energy and expanded into the new technology areas of agro-processing and transport. Currently, together with partner organisations, ITDG is contributing towards sustaining life and livelihoods of the poor by providing technological options in energy and environment, food production and agro-processing, transport, disaster mitigation and small enterprise development. ITDG is committed to contribute to the national objective of poverty reduction. Its programs in Nepal are driven by the needs of both the rural and urban poor. ITDG works in partnership with non-government and private sector organizations through a General Agreement and separate project agreements with the Social Welfare Council of His Majesty's Government of Nepal.

Nepal's royal family; revered and reserved
King Birendra was generally seen as a benevolent monarch By CNN's Craig Francis (CNN) Nepal, one of the world's poorest countries, is a constitutional monarchy. The royal family is widely revered with many believing the king to be the reincarnation of the Hindu god, Vishnu. Although the slain King Birendra ceded absolute power in 1990, he maintained popularity amongst the local population, as evidenced by his birthday celebrations last December, when schools and government offices were closed and hundreds of people lined the streets to pay their respects. The royal couple were married in February 1971. Their first child, Dipendra, was born on June 27, 1971. Two years after marrying, King Birendra was crowned to the throne on January 31, 1972 as a result of the sudden death of his father, King Mahendra He was the latest monarch in the Shah dynasty, which has held the throne since the mid-1700s.
