61. Nebraska Bureau Of Apprenticeship And Training - General Information

http://www.workforce.state.ne.us/bat/gi.htm
General Information Apprenticeship, in simplest terms, is training in occupations that require a wide and diverse range of skills and knowledge, as well as maturity and independence of judgement. It involves planned, day-by-day on-the-job training and experience under proper supervision, combined with related technical instruction. Registered apprenticeship is a unique, voluntary partnership of business and labor, with government playing a support role, establishing formalized, structured, on-the-job training under the supervision of a skilled craft worker which takes an unskilled or semi-skilled employee to the skilled craft worker level. The on-the-job training is supplemented with related technical instruction. The registered program is operated under the guidelines set forth in the Federal Code of Regulations Title 29, Parts 29 and 30. Traditional apprenticeship is most generally associated with full time employment, usually following graduation from high school, and for most occupations is open to anyone age 16 or older. However, individuals must usually be 18 to apprentice hazardous occupations. Traditionally associated with the skilled trades, apprenticeship is available in hundreds of other occupations. Most apprenticeship terms are for two or more years, dependent upon the complexity of the trade and skills required, with the majority of them being three to four years. It is recommended that the apprentice receive a minimum of 144 hours of related classroom study for each year of apprenticeship.

A post office was established in 1886; the first building in Bushnell was a general merchandise store, built in 1887. The first school was organized in 1887. James Newell served as the first postmaster, the proprietor of the first merchandise store in Bushnell, and the director of the school. He later served as one of the first county commissioners when the county division went through. The village's first depot was a box car set off on the south side of the tracks.
