Fern Rabinowitz, Library Media Specialist Mrs. Rabinowitz has been at Tolland Middle School since 1986. Prior to coming to TMS, she worked as a library paraprofessional at Tolland High School for six years, and as librarian at Vernon Center Middle School for one. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and got her master's degree in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island. She lives in Tolland and loves to read, hike, and play golf. Photography is another hobby - her favorite subjects are closeups of flowers and her grandson, Justin. Mrs. Rabinowitz is an avid sports fan, rooting for the L.A. Dodgers, the N.Y. Giants, and, most importantly, the UConn Huskies. You can often run into her at UConn soccer, football, and basketball (both men and women's) games. She has also been known to write an occasional rhyme or two, particularly when books are overdue. Peggy Cass, Library Media Specialist This is Mrs. Cass’ first year at Tolland Middle School and Birch Grove Primary School. Mrs. Cass has worked as a Media Specialist in Omaha, Nebraska and as a Children’s Librarian in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She is a native of New York City and a graduate of Lehman College in the Bronx. She will receive her Masters of Technology in Education from Lesley College in Boston this January. Mrs. Cass returned to New England to live closer to her two grandchildren, Cameron and Faith. Even though she is not a sports fan, her entire family roots for the NY Yankees, the NY Giants and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She is an avid reader and enjoys golfing and biking during the summer.

BY Jo ANNE YOUNG The woman who will be the new superintendent of Lincoln Public Schools fielded questions Monday afternoon from Lincoln media outlets on the LPS budget, a potential bond issue and student achievement. With a map of Lincoln Public Schools behind her, incoming Superintendent Susan Gourley fields questions during a brief press conference Monday, April 5, 2005. Gourley is in town to search for a home and to meet with current Superintendent Phil Schoo. And she answered one crucial question for kids: What's her policy on snow days?
"I like a few every year, too," Susan Gourley said. "But maybe not as many as we had this year."

    http://www.villageprofile.com/nebraska/dawsoncounty/09edu/topic.html
Dawson County supports three major school districts: Cozad City Schools, Gothenburg Public Schools and Lexington Public Schools. In addition, there are a number of small rural schools and one parochial school surrounding these three communities. All these entities provide a first-class education, with a drop-out rate between seventh grade and twelfth grade at an unbelievably low 3.3 percent. Gothenburg School District No. 20 in Dawson County covers 121-square-miles and is a Class 3, Type K-12 district. It provides education through strong instructional leadership, a positive learning environment, continuous assessment of pupil progress, quality staff and a partnership in learning with parents, the community, and private business. The K-12 district was established in 1925 and has maintained excellence in education for over 75 years. The elementary school is accredited by the State of Nebraska, while the junior and senior high schools carry the North Central accreditation. An estimated 97 percent of eighth-grade students finish high school in Dawson County. With the passage of a recent bond issue, construction of a new junior/senior high school will begin in 2002. Adult educational programs are held in the Gothenburg Public High School in conjunction with the Central Community College and offered by the University of Nebraska at Kearney, based on need. Gothenburg is a member of Educational Service Unit No. 10, which is headquartered in Kearney and serves seven counties. Services available through this service unit include speech therapy, school health programs, computer service, special education for trainable handicapped, electronic repair service, learning center, instructional media center, delivery services, resource teachers, school psychological services, special education supervision, staff development, driver education simulator, audiology assessment, industrial technology, ESL services, grant programs, and computer bulletin board services.
