Law Related Education Links Law-Related Education (LRE) aw-Related Education projects are administered and sponsored by the Foundation. RE is defined as "education to equip nonlawyers with the knowledge and skills pertaining to the law, the legal process, and the legal system, and the fundamental principles and values on which these are based." (Law-Related Education Act of 1978). As such, it is provided for adults as well as for youth. However, one of its greatest benefits is the positive effect it can have on at-risk youth who have an opportunity to interact constructively with resource persons and prosocial adults. More generally, LRE seeks to help youth become citizens who contribute positively to their communities through the development of beliefs and values that support and underlie the rule of law, in addition to obtaining the necessary LRE knowledge and skills. he Nebraska State Bar Foundation has been designated as the State Center for Law-Related Education in Nebraska by Youth for Justice, a cooperative program supported by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention of the United States Department of Justice. The Foundation sponsors the Nebraska High School Mock Trial Project, Reaching the Age of Majority booklet, and various Law Day celebration activities as wells as newly emerging LRE programs and projects.

US State Government Aid The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for most state loan, grant and scholarship programs, in addition to the federal loans and grants. When you submit the FAFSA to the US Department of Education, they forward the information on the form to the state student assistance agency. Each state has a different FAFSA submission deadline. If you submit your FAFSA by March 1, you will be in time for all state deadlines, other than Michigan. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to receive state aid for the entire academic year. Procedures for applying for state prepaid tuition programs and the national guard differ from state to state. The amount of information provided on the state web sites varies from state to states. Some states provide comprehensive information about residency requirements, loan, grant, scholarship and prepaid tuition programs and other state aid programs. Others provide minimal information. We recommend visiting the sites for both your state of residence and for the states of the colleges to which you are applying. A B C D ...

Protecting and safeguarding the citizens of the state from terrorist threats and/or attacks is a critical function of state government, requiring extensive coordination between state and local partners in conjunction with the federal response agencies. Governor Mike Johanns' Homeland Security initiative is designed to develop, coordinate and implement a comprehensive strategy for the protection of the citizens and assets of Nebraska from attacks using weapons of mass destruction - chemical, biological and nuclear. Governor Johanns has appointed Lt. Governor Dave Heineman Chairman of the Nebraska Homeland Security Policy Group. This group is charged with assessing strategic alternatives and recommending broad courses of action for the development of the comprehensive strategies. Nebraska, as are all states, is vulnerable to terrorist attacks. By accessing any of the state agency web sites, you can learn more about Nebraska's team effort to respond to and recover from terrorist attacks. Exciting things are happening in the NIRC. Jean Gotschall, the NIRC Coordinator and her assistant, Karen Duffy, are excited about having a new centralized location for the Nebraska Instructional Resource Center at the "Nebraska Center for the Education of Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired". They are located on the first floor of the center. The Nebraska Instructional Resource Center (NIRC) is a statewide depository of specialized materials for blind and visually impaired students in Nebraska. The NIRC staff has worked hard to insure that students receive their materials and books in a timely manner. This goal is now easier to reach since the "resource center" is in a central location. Processing is quicker and with the shipping and receiving is more efficient.
