The hand drum of the native people's of the West Coast of Canada is found in a variety of sizes. Common to many of the peoples of both the coastal and inland regions, this was an important instrument used in a variety of rituals and dances. The native drum is a type of frame drum made from either a single piece of wood bent into a circle or frame, or from a number of pieces pieced together to form the frame. Usually deer skin is stretched over the top, although now goat skin is also common. These drums are not usually tuned, and often accompany singing and dancing. A common rhythm found throughout the the West Coast is said to imitate the human heart, but is usually referred to "as the heart rhythm", rather than an imitation of it. This rhythm is also referred to by native drummers as the "heartbeat of Mother Earth".

    History of Native American Lacrosse
    By Thomas Vennum Jr.
Author of American Indian Lacrosse: Little Brother of War
Lacrosse was one of many varieties of indigenous stickball games being played by American Indians at the time of European contact. Almost exclusively a male team sport, it is distinguished from the others, such as field hockey or shinny, by the use of a netted racquet with which to pick the ball off the ground, throw, catch and convey it into or past a goal to score a point. The cardinal rule in all varieties of lacrosse was that the ball, with few exceptions, must not be touched with the hands. Early data on lacrosse, from missionaries such as French Jesuits in Huron country in the 1630s and English explorers, such as Jonathan Carver in the mid-eighteenth century Great Lakes area, are scant and often conflicting. They inform us mostly about team size, equipment used, the duration of games and length of playing fields but tell us almost nothing about stickhandling, game strategy, or the rules of play. The oldest surviving sticks date only from the first quarter of the nineteenth century, and the first detailed reports on Indian lacrosse are even later. George Beers provided good information on Mohawk playing techniques in his Lacrosse (1869), while James Mooney in the

This page covers performance for Indigenous groupsIndians, Native Americans, Amerindians, First Nations in the United States and Canada, with little on Mexico. Performance , here, is defined broadly as any staged and/or enacted created for both peoples outside a grouptourists and others and/or for themselves. Ceremony, ritual, and religious traditions, such as the Ghost Dance and Yuwipi, are included here because they contain performative elementsnot because they are 'theatre.' Their mention here is to respect them as spiritual practice for those indigenous groups and individuals who take part in them.
While some periodicals listed, such as Native Americas, cover groups in the Southern part of the Western Hemisphere, that is Mexico, Central and South Americas there's little else here. For performance in Mexico and other southern countries/areas go to Latina/o Performance

    http://member.melbpc.org.au/~borthwik/Best West Four.html
CHAPTER 4 - Wyoming, Montana, Alberta
    Sunday 26 May
We didn't have the early start. It poured all night and was still bucketing down when we got up. Most of the group weren't keen on the river trip and Chris gave everyone the option of cancelling. Almost all did, but we said we'd go if someone else did. We were almost disappointed when another couple put their hands up. Then, a few minutes later, Chris announced that the trip was off because of snow and we were really disappointed. Somebody said this was the best weather to see moose from the river. Because of the cancellation we set off at 9.30, an hour ahead of the original schedule, and much to the displeasure of at least one passenger who didn't like to be rushed. There was no sign of the rain letting up. We drove through Grand Teton National Park without sighting the Tetons which were totally hidden by low cloud. However, we did see elk and three coyotes. Yellowstone was more spectacular, lots of snow, lots of wildlife, elk and bison in profusion. Our first stop in the Park was at West Thumb Geyser Basin . It was very misty and the steam from the boiling water added to the lack of visibility. However, we were delighted to discern, through the mist about 25 metres away, our first close-up bison.

Itinerary Rivers of the American West
The rolling plains, endless vistas, imposing mountain ranges, and wild rivers of the American West have long inspired travelers to “come and see.” From the days of Native American tribes moving over boundless landscapes, to fur trading and exploration, and on into our modern world touched by the broad hand of technology, the American West has maintained its allure for those who would “come and see.” Still the rivers flow, the mountains stand jagged with snowy peaks and dense forests, and wide-open landscapes are not diminished by development and changing times. Discover the hidden trails. . . This is where our Rivers of the West journey takes you: not only to the Columbia and Snake rivers, including the lesser traveled “Hanford Reach,” but also the Palouse, John Day, Deschutes, and Willamette rivers. No other Columbia/Snake River cruise will take you up all these stunningly beautiful waterways.
