Bangalore Torpedo
Bangalore torpedoes are a simple explosive device used for clearing booby traps and light obstacles such as barricades and barbed wire. Named after a town in India they were originally invented at the time of the British Empires conquest of India. The torpedo is man portable and consists of three different sections, a nose which is smoothly shaped for penetrating obstacles, empty sections of piping to give the device the required length and explosive sections normally filled with an explosive such as TNT. Each section apart from the nose is normally about 6ft long with a 3" diameter. Bangalore Torpedoes were widely used in both World Wars , most famously during the D Day landings to clear obstacles from the beaches as seen in the films Saving Private Ryan and the Longest Day. The communist forces also used Bangalore's in the Vietnam War and similar devices are still used today, being portable, simple and easy to use.

Bavarian Army, Napoleonic Wars
In the campaigns that followed Bavaria acted much more like a weaker partner with France rather than a vassal state or ally. In 1809 Bavaria was a frontline state against Austria with many of the early clashes taking place on Bavarian soil. Bavarian troops saw defeat with the French at Aspern-Essling and then victory at Wagram but the Tyrol rose in revolt and it Bavaria months to put down the uprising. 1812 saw Bavaria supply the Grande Armee with VI Corps for the Russian campaign and elements fought at the battle of Borodino but following the disastrous result of the campaign they finally decided to desert Napoleons cause just before the

http://www.frontline-figures.com/history/nap.html
A very brief synopsis of the Napoleonic Wars, 1804-1815
The Napoleonic wars were a continuation of the French Revolutionary wars, and during them France, under Napoleon, especially towards the end, stood virtually alone against the rest of Europe. In 1803 Great Britain again declared war against France, and in 1805 the Third coalition against France was formed by Britain, Russia, Austria, Sweden and finally Prussia. In 1805 Napoleon, in what is consider his most tactically brilliant victory defeated the Austrian and Russian armies at Austerlitz, the Prussians at Jena and Auersadt in 1806 and the Russians again in 1807 at Friedland. With the Peace treaty of Tilist, of 1807, sign by Napoleon and the Russian Tsar, forcing the defeated powers to join the continental System which was proclaimed in 1806 and which was a blockade directed against the last opponent, Britain. To bring to her knees, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Portugal were forced to join the System. In 1807 Napoleon occupied Portugal and in 1808, Spain, which latter turned out to be a blatant error, turning into a major defeat and a success for the British after the Peninsular Campaign. In 1809, the Austria Army moved against southern Germany and although forced to retreat through Austria and east of Vienna, the Austrian army inflicted the first defeat of Napoleon on the field at the Battle of Aspen-Essling, after which Napoleon again defeated the Austrians at Wargam forcing another peace treaty. After a period of relative peace, Napoleon invade Russia in 1812, with the Grand Army, consisting of many willing and unwilling allies, the campaign prove to be a fatal error, after a glorious start and occupying Moscow, the forced withdrawl during the serve Russian winter totally annihilated the largest field army to date.

Preface Thank you for taking the time to visit my humble little corner of the Weband welcome to my site's new and hopefully permanent home! This site is dedicated to an in depth study of the uniforms worn by all nations involved in the period known as the Napoleonic Wars. I created it with the intent that it might be of use to fellow military historians and researchers in the field like myself as well as an informative page for students, collectors and wargamers of military miniatures and military re-enactors of the period. A bit about myself! I was born in Jette, a small suburb of Brussels on July 12th, 1949 and am presently living as a Canadian citizen in Canada. I started my interest in military miniatures at age 7 when my Grandfather who was retired Police Chief in Brussels and a military man of rank himself gave me a cigar box filled with the old 54mm William Britains' tin soldiers. I spent hours on end re-fighting battles with my toy cavalry, infantry and a cannon that fired matchsticks from it's barrel with a spring loaded mechanism. In my adolescent years, though I did not have access to military miniatures as I do today and wargaming was still very much in its infancy, I did not lose interest in them and all things historical and military in nature. I would spend hundreds of hours, drawing, colouring and then cutting out and mounting thousands of tiny paper miniature soldiers onto card bases and re-fight ancient, medieval and Napoleonic battles with them. Later, with the advent of photocopy machines my task of creating these armies became easier...
