The Ancient History of Chinese Medicine
Part Three By Robert L. Felt
Co-author Understanding Acupuncture The Yuan dynasty (1264 to 1368 CE) followed the Song and was a period when the Mongols under Ghenghis and Kublai Khan controlled China. The Yuan is the period of the famous bronze acupuncture statues, devices that symbolize the relative stability of acupuncture's base of data. Books of this era place 303 points on the 12 regular channels and 51 on the two medial channels for a total of 654 of the now accepted 670 acupoints. There was also a further development in the specialized practice of moxibustion. While there would be continuous interchange with China’s neighbors, and the Mongols would translate the Nan Jing into their own language, few developments of note occurred in China’s neighboring countries. Indeed, it would not be until the Ming dynasty of 1368 to 1643 CE that Chinese traditional medicines would be revitalized throughout the region. The Ming is the third of China’s golden ages. China, again ruled by Chinese, was united in the hands of Zhu Yuan-zhang the capable military leader who had re-captured power and restored the capital in Beijing. An autocrat, he concentrated power in himself and democratized the government to weaken the bureaucracy, helping to create an information explosion resulting in greater social diversity and opportunity. Medical thought was stable, carrying forward the incorporation of natural drugs into the medicine of systematic correspondence that began in the Song. Printing, which had begun in the Song, became more widespread and the Ming became a period known for several important texts, some of which are used and respected to this day. Chief among these is the

Search Military History Timeline: Ancient Chinese Military History (1600 BC-220 BC) Military historians have always found this period in Chinese history to be most intriguing and yet incredibly difficult to comprehend. The lines between Chinese myth and reality were blurred for centuries, although archaeology has shown that most of these legends are based in fact. Regardless, from the birth of this great nation came some of the most brilliant military minds the world has ever known. It is our hope that this timeline will assist you in comprehending and appreciating the ancient Chinese art of war and how the strategies and tactics that were conceived in these early centuries endure to this day. Note: The Wade-Giles (WG) method of translation, rather than the current “pin-yin”, was utilized in this timeline because a number of individuals and kingdoms from early Chinese military history are well known to English speakers by their WG spelling (i.e. Sun Tzu / Sun Zi; Chou/Zhou; Ch’in/Qin). Introduction
The Early History of The Region
On the eastern and western sides of the continent, the civilisations of China and the West developed. The western end of the trade route appears to have developed earlier than the eastern end, principally because of the development of the the empires in the west, and the easier terrain of Persia and Syria. The Iranian empire of Persia was in control of a large area of the Middle East, extending as far as the Indian Kingdoms to the east. Trade between these two neighbours was already starting to influence the cultures of these regions. This region was taken over by Alexander the Great of Macedon, who finally conquered the Iranian empire, and colonised the area in about 330 B.C., superimposing the culture of the Greeks. Although he only ruled the area until 325 B.C., the effect of the Greek invasion was quite considerable. The Greek language was brought to the area, and Greek mythology was introduced. The aesthetics of Greek sculpture were merged with the ideas developed from the Indian kingdoms, and a separate local school of art emerged. By the third century B.C., the area had already become a crossroads of Asia, where Persian, Indian and Greek ideas met. It is believed that the residents of the Hunza valley in the Karakorum are the direct descendents of the army of Alexander; this valley is now followed by the Karakorum Highway, on its way from Pakistan over to Kashgar, and indicates how close to the Taklimakan Alexander may have got.

    AN ANCIENT PERIOD OF HISTORY
    The birth of Mongols
There are many traces of an ancient human race in the territory of Mongolia. These are attested to by the archaeological discovery in the white cave of Bayanlig and stone weapon found in the Uran Khairkhan hill of Baa-tsagan somon Bayankhongor aimag. According to these discoveries, it is possible to say that the human race were living in the territory of Mongolia almost 700 thousand years ago.
There is a hypothesis that Mongolia is a cradle where the first human race were living. It is in corroboration of proof. It is certain that there was an uninterrupted settlement. This assumption is based on the outward appearances of Mongols. Mongols had straight black hair, with broad foreheads, small thick eye lash, short-nose, prominent cheek bones, burly chests, narrow waists and the thick set features of the Mongoloid race. They were the ancestors of the present Mongol race. Such type of people are a product of the nature and the climate of Mongolia over the course of many thousands of years. The perfection of the labour produced conscious people of the present day almost 40.000 years ago. At that period they used to share labour
tools and their hunting catches, lived a nomadic lifestyle, engaged in animal husbandry and produced bronze and iron weapons. As this material wealth increased Clan leaders and dominant figures possessed them and became powerful. This was the origin of private

    Cannabis and Ancient History
The ancestors of Cannabis originated in Asia, possibly on the more gentle slopes of the Himalayas or the Altai Mountains to the north. The exact origin, obscured by Stone Age trails that cross the continent is not known. We don't know when Cannabis and humanity first met. Given the growth habit of the plant and the curiosity of humanity, such a meeting was inevitable. In the plant world, Cannabis is a colonizer. It establishes new territory when running water or seed-eating animals carry seed to cleared and fertile soil open to the sun. Fertile soil, clear of competing plants, is rare and short-lived in nature, and is commonly caused by catastrophe such as flood or earthslide. Natural dissemination is slow and the plants tend to grow in thick stands by dropping seed about the spread of their branches. In 1926 Russian botanist summarized the observations of his comrade, Sinkaia, on the domestication of hemp by peasants of the Altai Mountains: "1. wild hemp; 2. spreading of hemp from wild centres of distribution into populated areas (formation of weedy hemp); 3. utilization of weedy hemp by the population; 4. cultivation of hemp." [24] The plants which people learn to use help define aspects of their way of life, including perceptions of the world, health,, and the directions of their technologies and economies flow. The plants you are about to grow are descended from on of the ancient plants that made the transition to civilization possible.

    Who Were the Real Celts?
Ancient History Celtic v Rangers - The Traditional View of Celtic History
The traditional historical view of the demise of the Celts has the Roman legions blasting their way across Europe, massacring the Celtic tribes as they went and everywhere obliterating the traditional Celtic way of life. Everywhere that is except in plucky Ireland and obdurate Scotland whose populations remained invincible to the last - with eventually the great Hadrian admitting defeat and building a wall beyond which no civilised Roman would dream of venturing. The Roman way of life completely wiped out the Celtic traditions in England, and when indolence and excess finally caused the collapse of Roman Britain, and the legions left, the void was filled by marauding German bands of Angles and Saxons who came across the North Sea and pushed the remnants of Celtic England back into the western hills where they became Welsh and incomprehensible.
Meanwhile, an Irish Celtic tribe called the Scotti liked the look of Islay and the green hills of Kintyre and Knapdale, and either thrashed the native Epidii, or more likely ravished their daughters and purloined their land. They formed the ancient Kingdom of Dalraida and eventually, through a series of wars with the remnant Scottish Celts (the Picts and others) united Celtic Scotland and formed Glasgow Celtic football club The Angles and Saxons however had grabbed Ayrshire, the Borders and the Central belt and set up Glasgow Rangers football club. These superficial religious and ethnic differences are swept aside in the modern world, as Scots of every shape, size and orientation come together at frequent intervals to form the Tartan Army which cheerfully wanders the globe to witness the glorious defeats of our national team.

    History of Buryatia (Ar Mongol)
    The Mongolian Ancestral Homeland
The Buryats are a Mongolian people numbering approximately 252,000 (1995 estimate of Buryats in Buryat republic) whose lands are located north of the Russian-Mongolian border near Lake Baikal. Buryatia lies within an area long contested by Russia, China, and (before 1945) Japan. Thus, historically and today, Buryatia has precariously existed amid the competing spheres of influence of more powerful neighbors. In the post-Soviet era, Buryatia has safeguarded its interests by maintaining good relations with Russia, of which it is a constituent part, and by establishing economic and political ties with independent Mongolia and China (through China's "Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region"). Another avenue by which Buryats attempt to mitigate Moscow's control is by cultivating links with a wider Mongolian cultural sphere. It should also be noted that Buryat Mongols do not only live in Buryatia, but also are significant minorities in Mongolia and Inner Mongolia as well. Mongolia's Dornod, Hentii, Selenge, Tuv, Bulgan, and Huvsgul Aimags, most of which border on Buryatia or Chita Oblast, have significant Buryat Mongol populations. Today many Mongolian Buryats hold important positions in government, business, and in the scholarly community. In Inner Mongolia the Hulun Buir region bordering Dornod Aimag also has a Buryat group called the Shinheeni Buryats, and a Mongolian group called the Dagur, who had fled Buryat lands after they fell under control of the Russians. This article, however, will focus mainly on the Buryat Mongols living within today's Russian Federation.
