History of Grimaldi Family
The Rock of Monaco was a shelter for primitive populations. Traces of their occupation were discovered in a cave in the Saint-Martin Gardens. The first sedentary inhabitants of the region, the Ligures, are described as a mountain people, accustomed to hard work and an exemplary frugality. The coast and the port of Monaco were probably the sea access for the interior Ligurian population, the Oratelli of Peille. The origin of the name "Monaco" has been subject to several hypotheses. For some, the name comes from the Ligurian tribe, the Monoïkos, who inhabited the Rock in the 6th century B.C. For others, the origin comes from the Greek. In antiquity, the port of Monaco was associated with the cult of the hero Herakles (Hercules for the Romans), and his name was often linked to the expression "Herakles Monoïkos," which means Herakles alone. This version seems to bear out, as the modern name for Monaco's main port is the Port of Hercules. At the end of the 12th century B.C., the Romans occupied the region. Monaco is part of the Province of the Maritime Alps. During their occupation, the Romans erected at La Turbie, the Trophy of Augustus, which celebrates the triumph of their military campaigns. During this same period, Phoenecian

    Arms of Monaco
These are the arms of the Grimaldi family: fusily argent and gules . The supporters, two monks holding swords, recall how the disguise under which the first Grimaldi to rule over Monaco penetrated the fort in 1297. As described below, several successive families have in turn adopted the name and arms of Grimaldi. The flag of Monaco is based on the colors of these arms.
    History of Monaco
    Early History
Monaco was part of Provence since 975, when Guillaume, comte de Provence, expelled the Arabs from the region. In 1191, Monaco was given to Genoa by the Emperor Henry VI, a donation confirmed by Frederic II in 1220 and 1241, and by the comte de Provence in 1262. On January 8, 1297 the Grimaldi, an exiled Genoan family, seized the fortress. They lost it in 1317, regained it in 1335, and soon begin to assert their independence. They acquired Menton in 1346 and Rocquebrune in 1355, but lost everything in 1357, regained it in 1395, lost again in 1401. Monaco breaks away finally from Genoa in 1419, and the Grimaldi return as lords of Monaco.

Royalty in Monaco
The Grimaldi family has ruled Monaco for more than 700 years. The country gained its current constitution in 1911 during the reign of Prince Albert I. He was succeeded in 1922 by his son, French army general Prince Louis II. Shortly before his death in 1949, Louis was succeeded by his grandson, Rainier III, who is still on the throne. No mere figurehead, the monarch wields a great deal of power in Monaco. The tiny principality became world famous in 1956 when Prince Rainier married American movie star Grace Kelly. Their only son, Prince Albert, is the heir to the throne. Prince Albert is not married. According to changes made to the constitution in 2002, if Prince Albert does not have children, on his death the throne will pass to his sister Princess Caroline. Next in the order of succession are Caroline's children, Andrea Casiraghi, Pierre Casiraghi, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Princess Alexandra of Hanover; followed by Caroline's younger sister, Princess Stephanie, and Stephanie's legitimate children, Louis Ducruet and Pauline Ducruet.

Introduction
Although it's more a pre-breakfast stroll than a country, Monaco packs a lot of living into a little land. Most of the people who dwell here come from somewhere else, drawn by the sun, glamourous lifestyle and - most importantly - tax-free income. This is the playground of Europe's elite, a country where Lady Luck might clean you out at the casino one day and put you on the Grimaldi guest list the next. It's one glittering, preening, swanking opportunity for people watching that shouldn't be passed up by amateur anthropologists. For those whose 'things to pack' list doesn't include a backless ballgown, Monaco can still be a hoot. Although you won't find cheap digs, native culture or untouched wilderness, you can snap up a Prince Rainier commemorative mug, gawk at the limos outside the Casino and surround yourself with topless wannabe starlets on Monte Carlo's beach. Live it up. Full country name: Principality of Monaco Area: 2 sq km Population: Capital City: Monaco People: French 47%, Mon©gasque 16%, Italian 16%, other 21%

Monaco is taken by the Genoese. The Grimaldi lays the first stone of the stronghold which today is the Prince's Palace. Their leader, Fulco des Cassello, obtains sovereignty for all of the land surrounding the Rock of Monaco from the Emperor Henri VI. In order to attract more inhabitants, Fulco des Cassello grants great advantages to newcomers such as free land and tax exemptions. From that date forward, the Rock becomes the object of the ongoing struggle between the two parties disputing power in the Republic of Genoa, the Ghibellines, partisans of the Emperor and the Guelfs, faithful followers of the Pope.
The Guelfs and their allies, the Grimaldis, are expelled from Genoa. They take refuge in Provence with all of their armed forces.. 8 January 1297
The Grimaldis lose control of Monaco. 12 September 1331
Charles I reconquers the Rock. Many consider him to be the true founder of the Principality. He buys back property of the Spinolas, allies of the Ghibellines, and then the doMayns of Menton and Roquebrune and becomes the first Lord of Monaco.

History: The history of Monaco is inseparable from that of the House of Grimaldi. Originally of Genoese extraction, the Grimaldis rose to prominence during the 12th century, when one member of the family became ambassador both to the court of the German Emperor Frederick II (Barbarossa) and to that of his Byzantine counterpart, Manuel Commenus. In the late 13th century however, with the Holy Roman Empire rife with internal strife, the Grimaldi family was forced to take refuge in Provence. François Grimaldi led a group of partisans into the fortress of Monaco in 1297, which has been ruled by his family ever since; the Grimaldis have preserved their independence through a mixture of good luck and cunning diplomacy. At various times, they were to be found allied with almost every power in the region, particularly during the Italian Wars in the late-15th and early-16th centuries. Monaco’s geographical position left them ideally placed to either help or hinder the repeated and largely unsuccessful attempts by the kings of France to conquer Italy. This Machiavellian approach – indeed, Machiavelli himself was in Monaco in the early 16th century to sign a treaty on behalf of Florence – paid dividends in 1612 when Honoré II was granted the title of prince by the French crown. He signed a treaty of friendship with France, and the principality remained independent from that time on, despite a brief interruption during the French Revolution.

The Dodge Monaco
The Monaco was a C-body car from '65 thru about '76; there was a C-body Royal Monaco also from '75 to '77. There were also B-body Monacos in '77-'78 (rebadged Coronets). (The Eagle Premier-based Monaco in the early '90s was a completely different car. When the Monaco was first introduced in 1965, it was only offered as a 2 door hardtop in the US (Canada had Monaco convertibles as well, but these were never offered in the US). It appears to have been conceived as a specialty hardtop along the lines of the Pontiac Grand Prix and Olds Starfire. This solo offering was the top of the Dodge line in '65; other C-body Dodges following included the Custom 880, Polara 500, and Polara. The Monaco was most readily distinguished from lesser C-body Dodges by its unique taillight treatment, a tradition that continued as long as there were C-body Monacos. The Custom 880 was dropped in '66 and the Monaco line expanded to offer most of the former Custom 880 body styles (all except the convertible and 6-window four door sedan). A Monaco 500 two door hardtop was introduced to take the place of the original Monaco at this time, accompanied again by a Canada-only Monaco 500 convertible.

The Plymouth Fury
Most information was garnered from The Monstrous American Car Spotter's Guide . Thanks to Andy Garland and Ken Soukup for their help, to Jim Jacobsen of Maine for rewriting (with substantial additions) the 1967 and 1968 sections, and to Thomas Frogh for 1970s corrections. The Plymouth Fury was a car of history. A favorite of many police forces, reportedly adopted by the tough New York Police Department after proving its ability to take abuse in the hands of a cop (driving his own Fury) chasing a drug dealer, it was a car that could take it. The development story of the Plymouth Fury is a fascinating tale of intrigue, revenge, and betrayal. Click here for more. The Fury should soon be in the Guinness Book of World Records: Joseph Vaillancourt's 1963 Plymouth Fury was driven as a cab since the mid 1960s. With 2,609,698 km on the clock, the taxi was struck and totalled by a truck. Vaillancourt was unhurt, and a Quebec actor, Michel Barette (who currently drives a Prowler) will be spending roughly $20,000 to restore the Fury. Though Vaillancourt was at first afraid he had not set a new record, he had simply not included enough decimal places when converting to miles...he made it! Christine , the famous Fury written about by Steven King, was able to not only fix itself, but also to take revenge upon those who hurt it. Christine had the spirit of the Fury line...though few Furies killed those who insulted their owners. [
