CULTURE
The cultural climate of the Principality which had developed particularly rapidly in the seventeenth century with the encouragement of Prince Honoré III is one of the principal concerns of H.S.H. Prince Rainier III, following the example of Prince Pierre of Monaco who was the friend of the greatest writers, painters and composers of his time. A department of the Government of the Principality, the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, whose head is Monsieur Rainier Rocchi, under the authority of the Department of the Interior, is responsible for promoting the cultural development of the Principality by, on one hand, providing facilities for all forms of prestigious cultural expression and, on the other, encouraging artistic creativity.
THE GREAT CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS The Prince Pierre Foundation Officially established on 17th February 1966 by H.S.H. Prince Rainier III, in honor of his father Prince Pierre of Monaco, is today headed by H.S.H. Princess Caroline whose interest in the world of Letters and Arts is well known. Its purpose is to encourage culture and progress in Letters and the Arts, in particular by the creation and awarding of prizes.

Monaco
Culture
Mon©gasque culture is the type one buys a new frock for; it's an ideal accompaniment to martinis and finger food. Most of its cultural institutions sprang up fresh-faced in the 17th century under the patronage of Prince Honor© III. The prize-winning Monte Carlo Philharmonic has been thumping out tunes since 1863, while the more modern Monte Carlo Ballet was established by Princess Caroline to honour her mother's memory. Monte Carlo also has its own opera and several theatres. If you scrape off Monaco's flawless makeup, however, you'll find the remnants of a deeply religious, spiritual culture underneath. The legend of D©vote, the country's patron saint and founder, is a cherished part of Mon©gasque heritage. Every year on 27 January a torchlit ceremony is held for her at the Church of St D©vote. Monaco also venerates saints such as St Roman, a martyred Roman legionary, and St John.

MONACO Monaco, an ancient principality steeped in a rich and colorful history, is considered by many to be Europe's most fascinating country. Though the Principality covers but one square mile, it stands as a proud monarchy with his Serene Highness Prince Rainier III as its head of state. Today people visit Monaco and its glittering district Monte-Carlo not simply to vacation, not just to test their standing with lady luck, nor merely to see and be seen, but to revel in the memorable life-enhancing experience that is Monaco.

    Introduction
Although it's more a pre-breakfast stroll than a country, Monaco packs a lot of living into a little land. Most of the people who dwell here come from somewhere else, drawn by the sun, glamourous lifestyle and - most importantly - tax-free income. This is the playground of Europe's elite, a country where Lady Luck might clean you out at the casino one day and put you on the Grimaldi guest list the next. It's one glittering, preening, swanking opportunity for people watching that shouldn't be passed up by amateur anthropologists. For those whose 'things to pack' list doesn't include a backless ballgown, Monaco can still be a hoot. Although you won't find cheap digs, native culture or untouched wilderness, you can snap up a Prince Rainier commemorative mug, gawk at the limos outside the Casino and surround yourself with topless wannabe starlets on Monte Carlo's beach. Live it up. Full country name: Principality of Monaco Area: 2 sq km Population: Capital City: Monaco People: French 47%, Mon©gasque 16%, Italian 16%, other 21%

Monaco - Monte Carlo Culture With more than 300 days a year of sunshine, residents in Monaco can take advantage of the Mediterranean, and all of its seaside activities. Moreover, Monaco's close proximity to the Southern Alps, which are only 1 hour away by car, allows for easy access to the ski slopes. A climate of security reigns in Monaco Monte-Carlo making this prestigious setting even more appreciable. Security specialists are unanimous; it would be difficult to live in a place safer than Monaco. One policeman for every 100 residents, a system of 24-hour video surveillance spanning the entire surface area of the Principality, including the majority of residence halls, a transmitting system worthy of the best armies in the world, the possibility of blocking all access in and out of the Principality in several minutes. And we mustn't forget the surveillance teams inside of the Casino and in all of the gambling establishments and hotels. Residents in Monaco, representing 108 different nationalities, can place their children in different schools, which are either a part of or affiliated with the Ministry of Education.
