Spain Information Geography
Spain occupies most of the Iberian Peninsula, the nearest European landmass to Africa: it is separated from Morocco by the Straits of Gibraltar and has both an Atlantic and a Mediterranean coastline. Portugal is on Spain's western side and is divided from France by the Pyrenees mountains. The Canary Islands in the Atlantic and the Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean, are Spanish. Spain is mountainous; some of the land is semi-desert and the country has a long coastline which borders the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Its largest rivers are the Ebro, Duero, Guadalquivir, Guadiana and Tagus. The climate is varied, with snow in the mountains and extremes of heat and cold in the central region. Drought is a particular problem in many areas. Madrid is the capital city. Other important cities are Barcelona, Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada and Valencia. Environment
The variety of the landscape is reflected in its flora: trees include pines, cork-oak trees and beech trees; flowering plants include orchids, gentians, lavender and rosemary.

France Information Geography
The French Republic has land borders with Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco and Spain. Its coastal borders are with the Meditteranean Sea, the Atlantic and the English Channel. Corsica is a French island in the Mediterranean. Paris is the capital city. Much of France's terrain is flat; there are some gently rolling hills and mountainous regions include the Pyrenees in the south and the Alps in the east. The Loire is France's longest river. Other major rivers are the Dordogne, the Garonne, the Rhine, the Rhone, and the Seine. France's climate is varied. Its winters are quite cool with mild summers. Winter and summer are much warmer along the Mediterranean. Environment
France has a varied landscape with forests and woodland areas covering twenty-seven per cent of the country. A Federation of Parks oversee France's nature reserves which are home to many endangered plants and birds. Animals include small creatures such as foxes and deer; the chamois lives in alpine areas and some wild boar can still be found in the more remote forested areas. Like all developed countries the French environment suffers from air and water pollution.

Moldovans speak Moldovan (outside of the semi-autonomous region of Gagausia and the breakaway region of Transnistria), which is for all practical purposes the same as Romanian. Most people in the cities also speak Russian, although be a little careful of this - learn enough Moldovan to ask whether it is ok to speak Russian - there are still hard feelings about the Soviet Union in some places.

History
The Republic of Moldova is a small country, favorably situated in the Southeast part of Europe, neighboring Romania to the West and Ukraine to the East. This piece of land boasts a rich history, abundant in dramatic and agitated events.
From the XIV century it was a part of the Moldova Principality, situated between Oriental Carpathians and the Nistru river, in the north bounded by Hotin, and in the South – by the Low Danube and the Black Sea.
Following the Peace concluded in Bucharest, in 1812, a part of this territory was asigned to Czarist Russia, which called it Basarabia - an older name, earlier attributed to the southern part. The aim was to identify this territory as a separate geographic entity from the Moldova Principality. The Independence of the Democratic Republic of Moldova was proclaimed in January 1918. And later, on March 27 1918 it was decided to re-unite it with Romania. The next annexure process took place in 1940, following the Molotov - Ribbentrop summit. According to this Basarabia became part of the USSR and was proclaimed as the Soviet Socialist Republic of Moldavia. It comprised only nine Basarabian counties and six districts from the left bank of the Nistru River. The present territory of Moldova is smaller compared to the area attributed to Russian authorities in 1812, since the North Hotin, Acherman and the southern Ismail were given up in 1940 by the Soviet authorities to Ukraine.
