Chartiers Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad N Scale Model Railroad
Model railroading is a great hobby for young and old. I returned to it after a very long absence and was amazed at the quality and selection of material available since my HO layout as a youngster. I remember adding green ink to sawdust to make grass, dried coffee grounds was used for dirt, round oatmeal boxes cut in half were oil storage tanks - I guess that really shows my age. This time around I decided on N scale primarily because of limited space. It has been a good decision. The Chartiers Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad ran for 23.6 miles between Carnegie, PA and Washington, PA. It was basically a water level route that crossed the Chartiers Creek about 20 times along its path. The branch was part of Pennsy's Panhandle Division of its Central Region. In preparation for this coal area line in the 1950 timeframe, a lot of my previous rolling stock has been replaced with coal hoppers and "Circle Keystone" era cars. My focus is on running steam engines, so just about all of my diesels have been retired.

What is On30?
This page is devoted to model railroading in On30 (also known as On2 1/2) gauge. In the U.S. this involves using HO gauge track with O scale (1:48) models to represent 30" narrow gauge in O scale. Outside of the US this is sometimes called O-16.5. O scale is slightly different (1:43 or 7mm to the foot, or 1:45) in other parts of the world. The advantage to modeling in this gauge is the availability of HO gauge locomotive chassis and components such as trucks and couplers. You can also use HO gauge track components, though once getting into this gauge, most modelers use On30 flex track and turnouts, or hand lay their own track. To find out more about On30, read the following articles: What's New on the Website?

http://www.ida.net/org/pmrhs/pmrhome.htm
We are pleased to share with you some of the pleasures that we enjoy in model railroading and preserving some of the history of railroading in and around our South Eastern Idaho community. Pocatello is a true railroad town, created by the Union Pacific (UPRR) on land acquired from the Bannock-Shoshone Indians a hundred and some odd years ago. The major East-West UP line between Omaha and Portland crosses the North-South route between Salt Lake City and southern Montana where connections are made to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Montana Rail Link. Yes, Pocatello was once known as a dirty, smoky "railroad town" but a good description today would be a pleasant little college town of about 50,000 nestled in the hills at the east edge of the Arco desert. The UPRR is still one of our biggest employers although restructuring has eliminated many local railroad activities including the big 40 track hump yard. This page, hosted by Idaho's Microserv , like our model railroad is under construction. We intend our web page, model railroad and museum to evolve to ever higher quality, but in the meantime we'll share what we have with you. The icon, indicates a promised link. Someday we'll have 'em all working.

RGS narrow gauge train, engine number 20, engine type 4-6-0 Photographed near Ilium, Colo., September 27, 1942 (Photograph by Perry Otto, 1894-1970, used with permission) The BMRC is the Premier Model Railroad Club for Boulder County. The Boulder Model Railroad Club (BMRC) is about having fun with model railroading. The club has no club layout, which means it can (and must) appeal to a variety of skills and interests. It has something for practically everyone from the person who only sets up a train at Christmas to the "tin plate" collector to the high tech DCC hogger to the "rivet counter" to the historian to the "foamer". Select this link for more details. Club meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month and visitors are always welcome. The venue is the Jaycees Depot except for October meetings which are held at Caboose Hobbies and December dinner meetings. Each meeting consists of a general business session where reports and news items are given by the Board of Directors and various special interest groups within the club. This is followed by a short break where members judge the monthly model contest.

Thameside Model Railroad Group
Home News Modules Meets Layouts ... Links The Thameside Model Railroad Group is a sub-division of the Eastern Division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) British Region. We are a small group of model railroaders, primarily from Essex, who met through the NMRA and decided to form a small group to further our knowledge and enjoyment of North American railroads, both full size and model. The Eastern Division covers East Anglia, and some members come from Northeast London. As its name suggests the Thameside group covers the southern part of the division, nominally Essex, parts of Suffolk and a small part of London. The group normally meets once a month somewhere in Essex, we do not have a permanent home so we make use of members homes and local model railway club premises. We welcome new members and membership of the NMRA is not essential although it is preferred and encouraged. Our goal is to spread the word of US outline railroading to the East Anglia area. The group has a semi-regular newsletter, "The Ditchlight" distributed to all members before each meet with contact details and maps for the meet and up to date model railroad news.
