Electric Flight- What a nice way to fly! Model electric aircraft plans and information on a building slow flyer, speed 400, speed 600 etc models and gliders. Details on building a foam hot wire cutter and the making of wing core templates. How to use the foam hot wire cutter and techniques for cutting delta wings. A good range of downloadable CAD drawings in DXF and DWG format (See list below). Slow flyer building instructions including DXF plans for the wing and fuselage and numerous photos to aid in construction . Material list and links to instructions on how to apply tissue coverings for extra light finishes. Spread sheet flight performance calculators in excel format. These are simple to use and provide very useful information from wing loading, power consumption estimations in watts and amps, and potential climb rates, etc. You don't have to include every detail like prop pitches or gear box ratios. It's made simple to give general results that help in designing models. A scaling spread sheet allows you to copy models from review articles without plans (as long as there are suitable side and top photos of the model). The site contains other various topics, some of these mentioned below:

CURIOUS MODEL-BUILDING CONTROL SYSTEMS
In Proc. International Joint Conference on Neural Networks, Singapore, volume 2, pages 1458-1463. IEEE, 1991.
Abstract:
A controller is a device which receives inputs from a (dynamic) environment and produces outputs that manipulate the environmental state. A model-building control system is a controller with an additional module (the `world model') which is trained to predict future inputs from previous input/action pairs. The novel curious model-building control system described in this paper is a model-building control system which actively tries to provoke situations for which it learned to expect to learn something about the environment. Such a system has been implemented as a 4-network system based on Watkins' Q-learning algorithm which can be used to maximize the expectation of the temporal derivative of the adaptive assumed reliability of future predictions . An experiment with an artificial non-deterministic environment demonstrates that the system can be superior to previous model-building control systems (the latter do not address the problem of modelling the reliability of the world model's predictions in uncertain environments and use ad-hoc methods (like random search) to train the world model).

The Viaduct Framework
Viaduct is a framework for building a presentation layer for java applications. It is use case centric; the semantics of the UML specification for use cases are used to provide an intuitive transition from requirements to implementation. A web application is modelled as a network (i.e. a directed acyclic graph) of use cases and each use case itself is modelled as a state machine. The framework enforces the model-view-controller pattern and provides additional services for internationalization, templating and validation. Consider the following: Use Cases are used to model the behavior of a system by specifying the interactions of the actors (i.e., users playing a role) with the system. A use case also includes possible variants of this sequence, e.g. alternative sequences, exceptional behavior, error handling etc. The complete set of use cases specifies all different ways to use the system, i.e. all behavior of the system is expressed by its use cases. Along with other possible requirements artifacts (such as screen layouts, data dictionary etc), these are the primary inputs for the subsequent phases in the software development workflow. Large applications are layered into several layers, each with a distinct responsibility. Of these

Auto-Z converts 2D AutoCAD drawings to feature-based solid models in either Mechanical Desktop or AutoCAD. Now in it's 3rd release, it's becoming a standard way of converting legacy 2D drawings to 3D models. Upgrades available for current users. ..... http://www.geocities.com/peterindall/
Introduction A while ago I was reading issue forty one of sci-fi and fantasy models international and I came across an article about a bunch of German fx guys and general sc-fi movie enthusiasts who had come together and began a very impressive project. This was to make a movie that would not only give the sci-fi genre a well needed boost in Germany but would also show the world that big budget Special effects are achievable on a shoe string, the project is called NYDENION. Being a Student in Special effects model making at Bournemouth institute of art and design here in England I thought I would drop the guys an E-mail and tell them a little bit about myself and maybe offer my services. Over the next month or so I was in contact with writer and director Jack Moik about doing some work for the project. originally I was asked to build some background models for a space port sequence, since then my responsibility's have grown somewhat and I now have the job of building the TC-85 CRUSADER hero model. I have decided to put this site together as a sort of photo' journal of the building process of the Models I will be directly involved with.... Brunelleschi's Secret
in constructing the Cupola of Florence Cathedral
Arch. Massimo Ricci Prof. Massimo Ricci , Italian, was born the 13th of May 1946. Architect and instructor at the University of Florence. Educated in Italy; graduated in Architecture (magna cum laude) from the University of Florence and president of the research group T.S.A. Tecnologie Strutturali Antiche The cupola of Santa Maria del Fiore of Florence is the largest existing valuted structure built of bricks in the world, and it is among the most complex and ambitious structures that any man has ever built. It was begun in May of 1420 and finished in September of 1436. The base of the cupola begins at 55 metres above ground level and rises approximately 36 metres above this. Its total weight is about 25.000 tonnes. A monumental challenge The enormity of the cupola obliged its designer to invent an altogether new construction method, the usual procedures being useless. In the competition organized to select the architect for the construction, the only candidate to propose a unique method of construction was Filippo Brunelleschi (Filippo di Ser Brunellesco 1377.1446); however, given the unusual methodology he proposed and his insistence that he could not reveal his solution in its entirety, he was not believed and was summarily dismissed by the Council of the Dome, whose duty it was to assign the commission for constructing the cupola
In fact, after other fruitless meetings of the Dome commission, no competitor was able to propose a valid solution to this project, and so it was entrusted to Filippo Brunelleschi inscrire his having to reveal his secret. In the centuries that followed, many scientific minds, notably Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Ximenes, Sanpaolesi and others, attempted to explain the secret of the cupola without success. In 1977, the 500th anniversary of the death of Brunelleschi, Arch. Massimo Ricci began to experience a strong desire to try to find his explanation. He discovered Brunelleschi's method used to overcome his exceptional difficulties. In addition to this, for an accurate hypothesis as to how to restore the cracks that have developed in the cupola, one must understand the method used to construct it.

Beyond Java?
Some experiences from building two CORBA IDL compilers. by Dr Jason Trenouth
The Java Age
We have been living through the Java age. It is somewhat of an understatement to say that there has been a great deal of interest in the Java programming language although as far as hype goes XML is now overshadowing it. Initially Java, outside Sun Microsystems at least, was seen as a programming language purely for the Internet. In particular, it came with a virtual machine that could be embedded in web browsers and a security model to control the activity of Java programs running in such browsers. These days, however, Java has moved on and developers are using the language for all sorts of applications. Java is perceived as a reasonable general purpose programming language one that is good enough. The tools are evolving. JIT compilers like Sun's Hotspot are making Java code run faster. UML-based design tools like Rational Rose are finding Java's rigid syntax amenable to round-trip engineering. EJB-based Application Servers like BEA's WebLogic are providing the background of services needed for many kinds of business applications.
