Missouri Genealogy Databases
Vital records were kept on a statewide basis beginning in August, 1909. The city of St. Louis, however, began recording deaths in 1850 and births in 1870. Federal censuses are available for Missouri as early as 1830. They were taken every ten years, and are available through 1920, with the exception of the destroyed 1890 census. All are indexed in one format or another. 1810 and 1820 territorial censuses were lost or destroyed, though the 1820 has been reconstructed from census fragments, tax lists, petitioners lists and other records. Others were taken in 1814, 1817, and 1819, but only statistical summaries remain. Search All Missouri Databases

    Welcome to the
Dinwiddie Home Page
Origins and Immigrants
Dinwiddie is an old and honorable name. This statement is meant to include the uncounted variations in spelling, some of the more frequently seen of which are Dunwoody, Dunwoodie, Dinwoody, Dinwiddy, and Dunwody. In old official documents the same man sometimes has his name spelled in more than one way. Consistency in spelling is a modern innovation.
The Dinwiddie's were a border clan, long chief proprietors in the parish of Applegarth, Anandale, Dumfries-shire. Their earliest known chief was Alleyn Dinwithie whose name is found on the roll of Scotsmen (for some unknown reason called "Ragman's Roll") who submitted on honorable terms to Edward I at the time of his invasion of Scotland in 1296. A later chief, Thomas, was killed in the Dinwiddie Tower by the Jardines in 1503, and the Jardines were credited with slaying the Laird of Dinwiddie in 1512 in the streets of Edinburgh. In 1547 the Laird of Dunwoody with forty-four followers was recorded as among those who gave allegiance to England.
Wonderful site by James Warr on The Dinwoodie's of Scotland Definitely not a site to miss. Has several names in databases with surnames that have connected to the Dinwoodie line.

Osage County, Missouri Genealogy Resources Welcome to my home page, genealogy is my passion. If you have ancestors that lived in Osage County, Missouri before 1880, then they are in my database. Individuals that married, purchased land, paid taxes, applied for citizenship, died with a will or a tombstone, were baptized or appeared as a juror, or were for some other reason in the county court records are included. As of August 2002 there are 90,400 individuals in my data base: 12,000 immigrants; 15,000 pioneer settlers; 40,000 children born/baptized in Osage County, Missouri before 1880; over 17,000 ancestors of immigrants and pioneer settlers; the remainder are descendants born after 1880. If you have ancestors that lived in Osage County before 1880, tell me about your family. I will be happy to exchange information. You can email me at mgentges@mindspring.com I do not charge to assist descendants of these early Missouri families. In many cases it is easiest for me to send a gedcom file. This file provides source information and notes on your ancestors. Corrections and additional information are welcome. If you do not have a program that can import a gedcom file you can go to familysearch.com and download Personal Ancestral File for free. PAF 3.0 the program I use costs 15.00. A Brief History The settlement of Osage County is a study in our Nation's history. The Indian families that lived in the area enjoyed the bounty of its rivers and streams, with fish and wildlife in abundance. The Osage County hills still offer game for the hunters and successful fishing. French trappers ventured west from St. Louis following the Missouri River, which serves as the northern border for Osage County. The Maries River on the west, and the Gasconade River on the East, define its east-west borders. Travel by water opened the stream and riverbanks to settlement. The river boarders also served as a barrier to the development of commerce.

MISSOURI STATE GENEALOGICAL ASSOCIATION JOURNAL
FAMILY-HISTORY ARTICLES ARE ALWAYS NEEDED FOR THE
MISSOURI STATE GENEALOGICAL ASSOCIATION JOURNAL
YOU CAN BE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR!
The Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal (ISSN 0747-5667) is a quarterly of 64 pages per issue, indexed in PERiodical Source Index (PERSI), catalogued in Ulrich's, and is part of the permanent genealogical literature.
The Journal always seeks good articles, including Bible records, church records, family records, historical articles, educational articles (including case studies and 'how-to' articles), cemetery records, tombstone inscriptions, county records, military records, census indexes, funeral-home records, newspaper indexes, newspaper abstracts, school records (especially 1880-1900), organization records, success stories, and other records of value to Missouri genealogists. Tabular and narrative articles, and ones that are in-between, are sought.
Of special value are articles that concern data relevant to the state as a whole (for example, naturalizations by the Missouri Supreme Court) or to large segments of the State. MoSGA greatly prefers not to compete with local genealogical and historical societies for publishable materials; however, it is recognized that many of the records mentioned are highly local.
Articles of lengths from one to 12 pages (sometimes longer) are desired. Articles longer than about three pages are serialized into two to four parts.
