NANA promotes within the legislative and executive branches of government a better understanding of the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, and obesity control to the nation's health and health-care costs. One of the primary goals of NANA is to cultivate champions for nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevention in Congress and federal agencies. Dietetic Internship Program
Dietetics Program Brochure PDF MS Word Dietetic Internship Program is a post-baccalaureate certificate program that is designed to provide interns with a wide range of learning experiences upon which to base their careers. Interns work individually with food service managers and clinical dietitians, gaining the skills necessary to function competently and confidently as entry level dietitians in clinical, management or community settings. Dietitians work in a variety of settings including hospitals and other healthcare facilities, sports nutrition and wellness centers, food and nutrition-related businesses and industries, private practice, community and public health settings, universities and medical centers, and research areas in food and pharmaceutical companies. A registered dietitian (RD) is a food and nutrition expert with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree who has met the academic and professional requirements for the credential. Many RDs hold additional certification in specialty areas of practice such as pediatric and renal nutrition (CSP and CSR, respectively), nutrition support (CNSD), and diabetes education (CDE). The American Dietetic Association (ADA) also recognizes advanced achievement with the Fellow of the American Dietetic Association (FADA). In addition many states also have licensure and certification requirements for RDs (LD or LDN). The state of Missouri recently passed a licensure law for RDs. Interns are encouraged to exercise independent decision-making and problem solving skills. Experiences are planned to meet individual needs and to fulfill ADA competency standards. Interns build on current knowledge, acquire new knowledge and identify resources for continued learning and professional growth. Upon completion of the program, interns are eligible to sit for the registration exam given by the ADA.

Health care in the U.S. is very expensive. There is no national health insurance program. Therefore, it is important that you have your own insurance. In fact, all J-1 students and scholars are required by U.S. law to carry health insurance that meets the US Department of State requirements for themselves and any dependents who are in the U.S. Because there is a wide variety of insurance companies and policies offered, make sure you ask about both cost and benefits when looking into health insurance.
Medical and Health Insurance
  • International students and scholars in J-1 status are required by law to have adequate health insurance for themselves and for all family members who are also in the United States. To apply for health insurance, you may contact the ISSS for an application form and brochure describing the health insurance sponsored by the University. Your entire family needs to be covered by insurance.
  • Finding a Doctor or Dentist
If a friend cannot direct you to a physician or dentist, you may call Community Health Services (874-7355) or look in the Yellow Pages. It is essential to telephone for an appointment before going to a doctor or dentist. You may have to wait a few days for an appointment unless you are sick or in need of a doctor immediately.

Home Food, Nutrition and Health Food, Nutrition and Health programming within Lincoln University Cooperative Extension can be divided into three broad areas: Nutrition education of food stamp recipients; Food safety education in two distinct programs; and general nutrition and health programming statewide. A description and evaluation of each follows.
    A. Nutrition education of food stamp recipients
This project is being conducted with the assistance of a Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP) grant from USDA/FNS. LUCE and the State Specialist oversee this program in two sites: St. Louis City and the Southeast Missouri office in Lilbourn. In St. Louis City, we employ two nutrition paraprofessionals to conduct nutrition education with groups of senior citizens in low income group residential sites around the city. One paraprofessional is also conducting some home visits.
The Southeast Missouri office oversees six nutrition paraprofessionals, one in each of six Bootheel counties – Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Scott, and Stoddard Counties. These paraprofessionals conduct home visits and also work with groups of senior citizens, especially with grandparents providing child care for their grand children. Some of the paraprofessionals work with youth in LUCE’s Kid’s Beat program, as well. In addition paraprofessionals in both sites attend health fairs to provide information to others who might want to enroll in the program.

Welcome to Missouri Saves Missouri Saves helps individuals and families save and build wealth. This program assists those who wish to pay down debt, build an emergency fund, save for a home, save for an education, or save for retirement.
Research shows that there are "savers" and "spenders" in all income classes. While those with modest incomes cannot save as much as the affluent, almost all have the ability to build wealth over time. Through contributions to a workplace retirement program, home purchase, and other savings, during their working years most can accumulate six-figure assets. The goal of the campaign is to convince all Americans that they can build wealth and to assist them in doing so. Holden Announces New Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
JEFFERSON CITY - This summer the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the Missouri Department of Agriculture are making fresh fruits and vegetables available to vulnerable populations, both young and old, Gov. Bob Holden said today. Holden said the agencies are collaborating to offer two programs: the Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program and the WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program. "These programs give Missourians an excellent opportunity to taste the best of Missouri agriculture, while experiencing the value of eating healthfully," Holden said. "I commend the departments of Health and Senior Services and Agriculture on working together to offer so many Missourians this opportunity." The Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, administered by the Division of Nutritional Health and Services in the Department of Health and Senior Services, is now available in Missouri for the first time. The program gives eligible senior Missourians special checks to use at local farmers’ markets, farm stands, and community-supported agriculture programs. Each eligible senior receives 12 checks for a total of $36 for the season. The program is available in the following counties – Boone, Cole, Greene, Howard, Lawrence, Oregon, Platte, Washington and Jackson (including Kansas City.)
