    The Influence Of Age, Gender, And Perceived Health Status On Health-Promoting Behaviors Among Rural Veterans Increasing evidence supports the significance of lifestyle in determining health status. The use of health promotion strategies in making individual lifestyle choices is one strategy to improve one's health prospects. Although the Department of Veterans Affairs has been active in preventive health programs, few, if any, specific health promotion programs exist for the veteran population. This descriptive, correlational study used the Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile II to measure health-promoting behaviors of rural veterans in the domains of health responsibility, physical activity, nutrition, interpersonal relations, spiritual growth, and stress management. Additionally, the influences of age, gender, and self-perceived health status on health-promoting behaviors were explored. The investigation posed two research questions: 1) What are the influences of age and gender on the likelihood of rural veterans to engage in health-promoting actions? and 2) What is the influence of perceived health status on the likelihood of rural veterans to engage in health-promoting actions? The sample was 112 veterans receiving health care on an outpatient basis at mobile clinic sites administered by a Veterans Administration hospital. Data were analyzed by using measures of central tendency and the chi-square statistic for association.

    This program supports activities which provide Latin and Caribbean women their families and their communities access to information, services, and technical assistance in maternal and child health care, nutrition, sex education and family planning. Through Partners, U.S. professionals in health, social service and education travel to Latin America and the Caribbean, as volunteers, to provide technical assistance to family planning projects. In addition, through the Partners network, Latin professionals travel to the U.S. for special training. The program also makes possible small grants to support community-based activities. These grants are competitively awarded to organizations carrying out projects that demonstrate support by the host country, matching community resources, and a long-term commitment on the part of the target community. Depending on the needs of the countries and the interests and professional affiliations of the partnerships, projects help:
    • Enhance the quality of local family planning services by upgrading the skills of staff in such areas as reproductive health and methods of contraception;
