    Family Intake, Assessment and Referral CAASTLC operates a Family, Intake, Assessment and Referral program whereby all persons seeking assistance are screened to determine eligibility and appropriate needs. All persons are screened for income and residency eligibility requirements, after which appropriate needs are determined in order to design service delivery. Referrals to appropriate services are then made and follow-up is conducted to determine if the services were rendered. Required documentation:
    • Proof of household income from the previous twelve (12) months. Social security documentation for all household members over one (1) year of age. Photo identification for the head of the household. Proof of residency (must be living in St. Louis County).
    back to Programs and Services page Family Literacy - GED Program CAASTLC offers a Family Literacy - GED Program for people who have not completed high school or not obtained a GED. This program is designed for participants to become more literate and/or obtain their GED. A GED pre-test is administered to determine the current educational level of each program participant. All participants must attend class and work on their individual curriculum plan as developed by a trained instructor. Periodic testing is given to measure each participant's progress. CAASTLC will pay the application and testing fee for each participant that the instructor determines is ready for GED testing. Bus passes are available to all participants who attend class on a regular basis. Free childcare is provided for children up to six years of age.

    Education and Training Community education is offered free of charge in the five-county project area, which includes Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi, Pemiscot, and Dunklin. MBHS staff are available to present information on infant mortality and low birth weight issues to all types of community groups and organizations. Professional education is given by the education coordinator and case managers. They are available to professional societies, organizations, health care industry providers/workers, social services agencies, child care providers, parent educators, and other businesses working with infants, babies, and mothers. Topics can include such things as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, teratogens, breastfeeding, substance abuse/domestic abuse during pregnancy, low birth weight issues, HIV/AIDS/STDs, and teen pregnancy.
