Recognizing the need for formal law instruction in the state of Mississippi, the legislature in 1854 established the Department of Law at The University of Mississippi. Over the years, the law department has evolved into today's modern Law Center. Located in Oxford, Mississippi, on the main campus of The University of Mississippi, the Law Center is housed in Lamar Hall, named in honor of the late Mississippian, L.Q.C. Lamar, former Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and one of the first law professors at the university. Oxford, a small town of approximately 10,000 people, lies nestled in the quiet hills of North Mississippi, just 75 miles southeast of bustling Memphis, Tennessee, and 180 miles north of the state capital of Jackson. The law school library collection consists of 300,000 volumes and equivalents. The Library's website (http://library.law.olemiss.edu) provides access to the online catalog and other legal resources.

Beyond implementing the Modern Red Schoolhouse program, the district's current focus is on restructuring its schools according to feeder patterns. "Executive principals" have been assigned to each set of school feeder patterns to provide technical support and coaching to each school principal within the feeder-pattern cluster. The executive director of exceptional education services suggested during the interview that resources from EMSTAC could be routed through the work of the executive principals. The district also has a National Science Foundation grant for providing professional development in mathematics and science and a 21st Century Schools grant from the federal Goals 2000 program. Neither of these funding sources is specific to special education.
As part of the district's identification of reading as a primary need, some district schools have implemented the Lindamood-Bell program in phonemic training. This program is funded through the district's state-level dyslexia grant and is not considered by the executive director to be a special education initiative.

by AgWeb.com Editors Rural Mississippi schools now lead the nation in having Internet access. In fact, that state has set a milestone by being the first state in the nation to have Internet access wired to every one of its 32,354 public classrooms. That saturation will bring rural school systems global “reach”, unlike any other state. The state met a goal to get each classroom wired by December 31, 2002. The challenge was first presented to state educators in 1999. The idea to hook up all the state's public classrooms to the Internet began in 1999 was first issued as a challenge during a meeting of the Mississippi Economic Council. Ronnie Musgrove, a candidate for governor at the time, picked up the challenge and made it part of his campaign. Musgrove is now Mississippi’s governor. According to the Associated Press, the state next closest to filling classrooms with online computers is Delaware.

What is Dentistry? Dentistry can be defined as the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and/or treatment (nonsurgical, surgical or related procedures) of diseases, disorders and/or conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and/or the adjacent and associated structures and their impact on the human body; provided by a dentist, within the scope of his/her education, training and experience, in accordance with the ethics of the profession and applicable law. What is a DDS or a DMD? DDS = Doctor of Dental Surgery
DMD = Doctor of Dental Medicine
Indicates the degree awarded upon graduation from dental school to become a general dentist. There is no difference between the two degrees; dentists who have a DMD or DDS have the same education. Universities have the prerogative to determine what degree is awarded. Generally, three or more years of undergraduate education plus four years of dental school is required to graduate and become a general dentist. State licensing boards accept either degree as equivalent, and both degrees allow licensed individuals to practice the same scope of general dentistry. Additional post-graduate training is required to become a dental specialist, such as an orthodontist, periodontist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
