These textbooks are located in the Current Journals Reading Room on the second floor of the Mitchell Memorial Library. Due to the nature of the collection, the materials are non-circulating and their use is restricted to the Current Journals Reading Room. The collection has been divided according to subject areas and is identified in the Libraries' online catalog through a keyword search for "State Adopted Textbook." The textbooks adopted by the State last year were Business, Health, Technology, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, and Driver's Education. The State Adopted Textbook collection includes textbook kits, which are located in the Current Journals service area. Due to the complex make-up of each kit, these materials are non-circulating and must be used in the service area. The CD’s and cassettes associated with the State Adopted Textbook collection are also kept in the Current Journals service area. These materials are non-circulating but may be loaned for use only in the Instructional Media Center.

Medical School Curricula with Live Animal Laboratories
download this factsheet Below is a list of U.S. medical schools that still use live animals to teach basic concepts in human physiology, pharmacology, and/or surgery. Two-thirds of all U.S. medical schools, including Harvard, Stanford and Yale, have eliminated these old-fashioned laboratories in favor of modern, cost-effective and humane alternatives. Please write to your local universities and alma mater to express your concerns about these crude exercises. Please note that this list includes only schools that use live animal laboratories to train medical students, and does not refer to basic research that may be conducted at medical schools and universities. Dear Media Member, Mill City Museum chronicles the story of the flour milling industry that flourished on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis a century ago. Recognized as the "Flour Milling Capital of the World" from roughly 1880 to 1930, Minneapolis came to be known as “Mill City.” Transforming grain from Midwestern Plains into a food staple for the world, the industry had far-reaching impact:
  • Millions here and abroad were able to purchase low-cost, high-quality flour; Minneapolis grew into a major city, its population surging from 13,000 in 1870 to 165,000 by 1890; and

Spring/Summer 04 All the News That's Fit to Sell , a book by James Hamilton , Oscar L. Tang Family Professor of Public Policy, was reviewed in the Wall Street Journal by Tim W. Ferguson, ("Jim Lehrer vs. Janet Jackson," Feb. 4, 2004). Hamilton and John Dancy , professor of broadcast journalism, also discussed the book on WUNC-FM's "State of Things" on Feb. 11, 2004. Hamilton's book (Princeton University Press, 342 pages) is the first to develop an economic theory of news, analyze evidence across a wide range of media markets on how incentives affect news content, and offer policy conclusions. He concludes by calling for lower costs of access to government information, a greater role for nonprofits in funding journalism, the development of norms that stress hard news reporting, and the defining of digital and Internet property rights to encourage the flow of news. M. M. Roberts Stadium
  • Construction Photo Gallery M.M. Roberts Stadium is the focal point on Southern Miss' campus during football Saturdays in Hattiesburg, Miss. With all the excitement and atmosphere surrounding the game, there isn't a better place to be. The stadium, which is affectionately known to the Golden Eagle faithful as "The Rock at Southern Miss," has been home to a number of Southern Miss football standouts, including the likes of Brett Favre, Ray Guy and Reggie Collier. Currently, the Southern Miss Athletics Department is in the early stages of a stadium renovation capital campaign, "Building Dominance." Funding from this campaign will allow the athletic department to implement the major phases of a recently completed renovation and additions study that will include such major projects as luxury suites and club level seating and press box renovation and expansion of the stadium, increasing seating capacity to 41,300. As the football team's success continues to build yearly, so does the fan support and season ticket base. Last season, 20,793 season tickets were sold, marking the largest number in the school's history, breaking the 2001 record high of 18,652. From the 1999 season until the 2002 season, there has been an increase of almost 4,000 season tickets. An average of over 28,000 fans attended home games in 2000, one of the highest home attendance marks ever and the 2002 average attendance was about 27,000. A single-game record of 35,169 fans were on hand to witness the Southern Miss-Jackson State season-opener on Aug. 31.
