When she hears a door open in her housing complex, her heart races. For the past three months, she and the rest of the Kaminski family have waited for word about her 25-year-old son, Eric, an Oak Lawn resident who seems to have vanished without a trace. "When the mail comes, we're running to the door like idiots thinking he sent us a letter or something," she said. "You hear the door and think it might be him — you get real goofy from it all." Eric Kaminski was last seen in Chicago, where he was doing some tile work at the Hilton Hotel, 720 S. Michigan Ave. He talked to his wife, Grace, during the day and said he'd see her at home. His truck was found, locked, with his driver's license inside. No new information has surfaced, despite efforts by two detectives on the case. "It's like he disappeared into thin air," said Oak Lawn Police Chief Robert Smith, whose department is overseeing the investigation. Patti and her husband, Dan, have tried to keep Eric's memory alive and on the minds of people in the area. They will be holding a candlelight vigil tonight in Oak Lawn.
