Attorney General Staffer Helping Lead Crisis Response Team to Minnesota Community Where One High School Student Killed Another
DES MOINES. Alison Walding of the Attorney General's Crime Victim Assistance Division is leaving today to be the Team Manager for a Crisis Response Team for Rocori High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota. Alison will manage a team of six persons trained in helping communities respond and recover from extraordinary trauma, especially crime-related events that affect large groups of people. Last Wednesday morning a Rocori H.S. freshman allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old senior and critically wounded another student. The Crisis Response Team managed by Alison is organized by NOVA, the National Organization for Victim Assistance. The team starts its work at 4 p.m. today and will participate in a Student/Parent Meeting this evening. The Team will do an hour presentation on dealing with the aftermath of crisis, common crisis reactions, coping mechanisms, and 'trigger events.' The Team will conduct additional sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday including for Rocori H.S. staff and faculty. Rocori has about 850 students. Alison's experience in Minnesota will give her insights on the effect of such violence on a rural community, how people react, and Iowa's readiness for providing assistance.
