Students in the Extended Degree Program enjoy the same quality teaching and access as their on-campus counterparts because UW-Green Bay faculty are their professors, too. Currently, about 35 UW-Green Bay professors from an array of disciplines teach in the Extended Degree Program. BREZNAY, PETER T.

Executive Summary of the THE IMPACT OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES ON THE CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND PROFESSIONALISM OF TEXAS PEACE OFFICERS This study was developed because of a need to understand the career development activities and their impact on Texas peace officers. The study described the levels of human resource development activities of the 36 largest law enforcement agencies in Texas representing 21,065+ peace officers, 45 percent of all Texas peace officers. In addition, 23 hypotheses were tested which assessed the impact of human resource development activities on the careers of officers. The data was collected from a random survey of officers in the selected departments. Of the six hundred fifty-eight surveys were distributed, 69.3 per cent were returned and usable. The sample was slightly divergent in terms of gender from all Texas peace officers with 17.2 percent being female as opposed to 12.2 percent for all Texas peace officers. There also was a slightly higher representation of minorities with 18.7 percent being minority as opposed to the 13.2 percent for all Texas peace officers. Both of these are indications of the urban nature of the sample. The sample also had slightly fewer officers under age 25 and over age 50 than all Texas peace officers. Also, 82.1 percent of the sample have only worked for one department compared to the statewide rate of 69.9 percent. There were only 17.8 percent of the sample with less than five years experience which is different from the statewide rate of 31.2 percent. These are tendencies to be expected with predominantly urban departments that are under civil service systems that promotes stability, restrictions on the ability to make lateral transfers between agencies, and 20 year retirements.

Education Resources Help Kids 'Give Water a Hand'
Resources for hands-on water-related environmental education! Every teacher knows how much students love to get their hands dirty but how about wet? Finding pristine waters in the United States is becoming more difficult, but two organizations are helping teachers bring the plight of national waterways into the classroom. Give Water a Hand and River Watch Network offer support and information for organizing projects that offer meaningful learning experiences for students. In 1992, the cooperative extension service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) completed a national assessment of water curricula and other education resources. "[The assessment] identified more than 1,000 youth water-education publications and extensively reviewed about 70 water curricula," project coordinator Molly Thompson told Education World. "As a result, the team recognized four needs a need for a collaborative approach to water-related environmental education, a need to help youth to act, a need to make environmental issues immediately relevant for youth, and a need to nurture in youth the skills of environmental stewardship."

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church A Warm Welcome
to our new Pastoral Partner!
We've called an interim Pastor to serve at Faith! Pastor Bruce Arnevik will be a partner in ministry with Pastor Ebbesen, sharing most general Pastoral duties and working specifically with the Transition Team as we prepare for the call process to secure a new Pastor. March issue of the Faith in Action newsletter
"Life Together" Something Different for Lenten Suppers! This year, there will be NO Wednesday Soup Suppers or evening worship services on the five Wednesdays in March; However, everyone will have an opportunity to participate in small group gatherings of about 90 minutes each held in the homes of Faith members. Each gathering will include supper and Bible study. Watch for a letter with detailed information arriving soon to each household. If you are interested in serving on the "Life Together" team, please call Pastor Ebbesen. Sunday School registration and recruitment for the fall of 2004 will begin on March 14. A mailing will go out prior to that date with all the information you need in order to register, but registration will need to be done at church. We are also looking for parents who are willing to share their God-given talents to teach a Sunday School class. Celebrate our call as we use the gifts and talents God has given us.
