Tri-County Action Programs, Inc. (Tri-CAP) is the federally designated Community Action Program for Benton, Sherburne and Stearns counties in central Minnesota. Programs administered by the agency may serve one or more counties, and in several cases, go beyond the boundaries of the three counties
Tri-CAP was incorporated in 1965 and has served low- and moderate-income residents ever since. The agency's staff are able to offer a wide array of services that assist individuals and families to achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency. Further information about all of the programs is available throughout this site.
The Executive Director of the agency is Paula S. Erdmann. Ms. Erdmann has been with the agency for more than 28 years. The Management Team of the agency has more than 100 years in the community service field!
The agency is governed by a 21-member volunteer Board of Directors. One third of the Board are elected officials, one third are representatives of the low income and one third are public-at-large positions. These dedicated volunteers set policy for the agency and meet on a monthly basis.

New Project: The Center for the Study of Intelligence and Wisdom Ground Zero Minnesota
is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3, education non-profit which started in 1982. Our mission is most concisely described as "education for informed democracy and human survival." Simply put, we think human survival is in jeopardy, or at least that our current civilization is under great and growing stress, and we try to use the principles of democracy to encourage constructive solutions to that problem. MISSION "THAT PROBLEM..." "That problem" has many dimensions, so any statement here must be simplistic. Population pressure results in stress on resources and damage to the environment; these factors have economic and political consequences which lead to conflict of many kinds including war. Our members have many divergent views about the ultimate causes of war and social distress, but are united in belief that we must work together as best we can if problems are to be solved. In order to solve problems, democracies need good information widely available to citizens, but that too has become more difficult as governments and other actors become more sophisticated in manipulating what the public gets to know. I n 15 years we have sponsored over 2,000 programs in schools and other educational settings, including about a dozen large conferences. We have also produced 48 educational videotapes (Nov., 1998).

October 2, 1998 Volume 3, Issue 15 THE SCHOOL HEALTH EDUCATION PROFILES: CHARACTERISTICS OF HEALTH EDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS The School Health Education Profiles, compiled by the CDC's Division on Adolescent and School Health (DASH), are providing health educators nationwide with characteristics of junior and senior high school health education programs in communities and across states. The Profiles, which are school-based surveys conducted by local and state education agencies, summarize results from 35 state surveys and 13 local surveys conducted among representative samples of school principals and health education coordinators. The response rate was 51% to 95% across states and 74% to 100% in local areas. Some of the results include:
  • Across states, 77.5% to 100% of schools required health education at least once for students in grades six to 12; across cities, 86% to 100% required the same. 71.8% of states and 87.8% of cities required teachers to use a state health education curriculum, guidelines, or framework. 80.5% of states and 97.7% of cities required teachers to use a school district health education curriculum, guidelines, or framework.
