While many townships in eastern Stearns County are experiencing great urban development growth pressure, western townships continue to be primarily agricultural. Populations in these western townships have actually declined in recent years as farms and agricultural business consolidate. Mizna presents the World Premiere of With Love From Ramallah Mizna, a leader in Arab American artistic and cultural expression based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is proud to present the world premiere of the Arab American play, With Love from Ramallah previewing June 3 at the Mixed Blood Theater in Minneapolis and running through June 13, 2004.
Written by playwrights Kathryn Haddad and Juliana Pegues, and directed by Pangea World Theater artistic director, Dipankar Mukherjee, With Love from Ramallah breaks new ground in showcasing the Arab American community and the problems and joys of living in America and living in the Middle East during this time in history. The play deals with issues of immigration, isolation and occupation and explores the strength of the human spirit to survive.
Taking place both on the West Bank of the Mississippi River (in Minneapolis) and the West Bank of the River Jordan (in Ramallah), the play shows the life for Arab immigrants in post 911 America and life for Palestinians in Ramallah during one of the severest political crises in the Middle East to date. Arab Cast
With a cast of actors taken directly from the local Arab American community, Mizna presents a first of its kind professional production. Actors are Palestinian, Moroccan, Lebanese, Syrian, and Egyptian and have come together to create a piece of theater which explores life in America for first and second generation Arab immigrants, as well as life in Ramallah, West Bank during the current political crisis. Interspersed in this story of two lovers who are separated by time and place and political crisis, With Love from Ramallah incorporates traditional Arabic music, dance, poetry, and the Arabic language to create two worlds-one in Minneapolis and one in Ramallah during the year 2002. Audiences will journey with Ziad and Amal as they try to navigate a life of normalcy within political upheaval.

97. Mission And Purpose Of The Minnesota Gay Homicide Study
A research project measuring the incidence of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender victims of homicides in minnesota and its border cities.
http://www.mngayhomicide.org/
About the MGHS The Minnesota Gay Homicide Study is an independent, all-volunte er nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our mission is to promote greater knowledge and understanding of the unique nature of gay* homicide through sound empirical research, critical analysis and effective community partnerships. The three-fold goals of the Minnesota Gay Homicide Study are to increase case solvability articulate homicide issues reduce incidence of homicide The Study views solid research regarding gay homicides to be the critical, first step in improving case solvability of homicides; strengthening the complex and often contentious relationships between law enforcement and the lesbian/gay/bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community; creating safer and more just communities for all residents; and ultimately, preventing homicides. For too long, the LGBT community has only reacted to incidence of violence and homicide in its community. Likewise, law enforcement has been ill-equipped – even where there are good relationships with the LGBT community – to understand and effectively investigate gay homicide. Public policy makers and researchers cannot address what they do not recognize. The term “gay homicide” refers to a homicide where the victim is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT); where the offender is LGBT; or where there is an LGBT element involved in the homicide.

SEARCH FOR A NAME
We use place names every day, thinking about where we are going, not where the names came from. This web site provides quick access to the stories behind the names, thousands of miniature histories that capture the lost lore of familiar places. The stories on these pages unfold in the idiosyncratic, antiquarian voice of their compiler, Warren Upham, a compulsive collector of minutiae who gathered Minnesota's geographic names from 1879 until his book was first published in 1920. While fans of the book will be pleased to meet an old friend again, Internet users may be surprised by Upham's distinctly nineteenth-century tone. His voice, speaking from an era when massive projects of this type were compiled, draws readers into his world and his passion. Minnesota Place Names is both a book, published in a revised and expanded third edition, and this searchable, expanded web site, which includes the text of the book and a wealth of further links to information about Minnesota places. Both resources, like the original volume, will continue to settle arguments, delight browsers, and satisfy researchers.

Minneapolis, Minnesota
A delightful and livable mix of urban and rural, Minneapolis-St. Paul stands as the northernmost metropolis of the Great Midwest. The Mississippi River splits this metro area of 2.45 million into two distinct but ultimately interdependent cities: St. Paul, the state's capital with its neighborhoods, festivals, and hometown feel; and Minneapolis, with its skyscrapers, sports teams, arts, and nightlife. Together, they are the economic life force of the state and their inhabitants comprise more than half of Minnesota's total population. Around this hub - and linked by public transportation and a far-reaching expressway system - are dozens of suburban areas, including Brooklyn Park, home to Berbee's Enterprise Data Center and offices, and a hotbed of regional business development. Indeed, the Twin Cities area is home to a diverse and lengthy lineup of major U.S. corporations, including 3M, Dayton-Hudson, Target, Cargill, Honeywell, Pillsbury, General Mills, Cray Research, and more. The Twin Cities are swift adopters of new technology, a fact borne out in its progressive public policy, highly skilled work force, and the growing customer market served by Berbee and its key business partners, IBM, Microsoft, and Cisco. The region also is home to dozens of Fortune 500 headquarters, covering such industries as manufacturing, printing and publishing, technology and retail. And, when it comes to education, quality abounds. The University of Minnesota, St. Olaf College, and Carleton College are but a few of the post-secondary options attracting a nationwide pool of talent - many of whom remain in the region after graduation.
