http://www.sgr.org.uk/
Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) promotes ethical science and technology - based on the principles of openness, accountability, peace, social justice, and environmental sustainability. Our work involves research, education, lobbying and providing a support network for ethically-concerned scientists. [ Detailed aims SGR is an independent UK-based membership organisation. We have around 600 scientist members, and are supported by some of the UK's top scientists, for example Prof. Sir Martin Rees, Prof. Stephen Hawking, and Prof. Maurice Wilkins. Unlike many scientific bodies it is our policy to refuse funding from the military or large corporations involved in controversial science and technology - which means we depend for most of our finance on our members and supporters. By joining us, or by making a donation , you will be helping to increase our effectiveness and maintain our independence. We invite all scientists, technologists and students to join SGR . Others are welcome to join as associates. SGR is affiliated to the International Network of Engineers and Scientists for Global Responsibility (INES)

Your browser does not support script advertise search EUROPE'S MOST VISITED SF/F WEB SITE The Fist and the Stars Authors David Sherman and Dan Cragg interviewed about the art of writing high octane military science fiction and how their Starfist novels were informed by their own years in the services. DR: The best military science fiction is written by real combat vets. Can you tell us about your military backgrounds? David Sherman: I enlisted in the Marine Corps right out of high school in Omaha in 1962. Went to boot camp in San Diego and infantry training in Camp San Onofre, Camp Pendleton, California. Then served two years in Company L, Third Battalion, Fourth Marines, First Marine Brigade, based at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii, where I rose from PFC rifleman to lance corporal fire team leader. Next came a tour as a military policeman at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina. My last tour of duty was in Vietnam, where I was first a fire team leader in India Company, Third Battalion, First Marines and promoted to corporal, then in a Combined Action Platoon in Ky Hoa village, several miles from Chu Lai. (Mine was the first CAP in the Chu Lai area.) I was released from active duty four years, three months, and twenty-six days later from the same place I entered it, San Diego. I qualified as an Expert Rifleman, and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal, along with a slew of unit citations and campaign and service medals, including three Vietnamese medals and ribbons.

Military Science - Army ROTC
The mission of the Military Science - Army ROTC program for undergraduates is to produce leaders of character to serve in the nation's defense. The cornerstone of the leadership program is developing self-confidence, teamwork, responsibility, professional ethics, and the ability to "take charge." Students at the University of Delaware can earn a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon completion of the military science program and a baccalaureate degree. The normal four-year ROTC program requires the completion of eight one-semester courses, totaling 12 credit hours, and successful completion of a five-week leadership camp during the summer prior to the senior year. ROTC Program
The ROTC program consists of two major subsets the Basic Course and the Advanced Course. Both courses are straightforward rather than conceptual and tend to be small (25 or less) with much personal interaction between the cadre and the students. Basic Course - for freshmen and sophomores. A series of four 1-credit classes that are open to all students with

151. Tips On Writing Military Science Fiction
This may be why I like military science Fiction so much. I despisewriters who are too lazy to do their research and that may be
http://web.qx.net/warcat/milsf/
By William S. Frisbee Jr. Recommended Books War is not about guns or bombs, war is about people. It is about people who cannot or are unwilling to resolve their differences through discussion or other non-violent means. Movies and television use guns and explosions to draw attention and awe the audience. People like being awed and that is what producers want to do to people. In my opinion producers or script writers are too lazy to do any research so their stories are severely lacking when it comes to reality. It is always easier to make up things for dramatic effect than to face the reality that can be less dramatic. Because movies and television do not portray reality often most viewers do not know what is possible and what is not. While finding books on large unit tactics is usually not difficult, and history books frequently detail this large scale battles, small unit tactics are another story entirely. Most movies, television shows and books are about people, not entire battalions or Regiments or Divisions. This means finding out about small unit tactics is a difficult proposition at best. Some people actually care about what they write and some would like to add more reality to their story but don't have many resources to draw from. That is what this resource is about. It is my intent to help newbies and veterans alike to understand small unit tactics and techniques. It is also my intent to help Science Fiction writers understand what war is like now and how it may evolve for the individual infantryman.
